Synodontis cf. koensis
I acquired this syno some time ago - it was sent by a reliable African shipper as Synodontis cf. koensis - is this still what it is considered? Sorry for the bad pics; they are an acute combination of bad lighting, bad camera, bad photographic technique, and an atrocious photographer (me!) :

Re: Synodontis cf. koensis
I guess these are Synodontis CP and not Synodontis CF. I understand how you mistook them. After all, both of them look very similar if not for the slight variations in their spots. By the way, the fish looks really beautiful. It would be nice if you could post a few more pictures with better lighting.

Re: Synodontis cf. koensis
The fish is now on black substrate, and thus has darkened color pretty intensely. I'll try to get further shots, but that's a long shot.
Could you elucidate on cp. vs. cf.? I know cf. stands for "compared to" ... but cp.?

This is not a hybrid but an undescribed species - see post by Silurus

Pay no attention, that earlier post is a form of spam where someone comes in writes a post on a past thread that could almost be taken serious and re-edits it later on...has been dealt with!!Could you elucidate on cp. vs. cf.? I know cf. stands for "compared to" ... but cp.?

you mean photo cup?exasperatus2002 wrote:I love the photo tank.
good to see the guard dogs are not sleeping, unlike at some other places
Why would anybody do it here? I mean I saw it happen over and over and over again at waterwolves, and I got tired of reporting it, but those abusers there were leaving links to commercial products.
How do I know from the data sheet that this is an authentic species and not a hybrid? I failed to find a clear indication of that.

That's my "photo juice glass", to be precise. It was just handy when I was moving the cat, so I used it; it was either that or no photo at all!Viktor Jarikov wrote: you mean photo cup?

I've no idea if it is a hybrid. I do know the vendor who imported the fish, and it is a vendor I trust completely. The possibility always exists, but I'm not aware of too much natural hybridization in (or hybrids being shipped out of) West Africa.

Re: Synodontis cf. koensis
Sorry to revive such an old post. Am I to understand what used to be called Synodontis cf Koensis is now considered Synodontis Waterloti? I wouldn't care except for the fact that I've got 7 of these & it's good to know what they're called.

Yes, I (and Jippo) believe so.Am I to understand what used to be called Synodontis cf Koensis is now considered Synodontis Waterloti?
S.koensis is a completely different fish but from the same area.(Ivory Coast within the Upper Guinean Bio Region)
S.waterloti can be quite variable...if one were to compare on pattern alone they can look very different and would be confusing.

Re: Synodontis cf. koensis
Thanks, Birger. I was browsing through the Cat-E-Log and came across Waterloti and thought they looked like the cats I knew as cf Koensis and when I couldnt find them in the Cat-E-Log, I was confused about their ID.
