congratulation for spawning a Hypancistrus. Please try to make some pictures, even from the parents. L 287 is not a valid L-Number, and the story behind this L-Number is just a bad joke, but I have a pair of an Hypancistrus type, called L 287 by Aquarium Glaser.

So I call them L 287 (Glaser 2007). As you can see the potential of this type is great, I have hatched just 120 youngster this year. (only one pair)

Oh man those Hypancistrus are great looking! let me know if you want to send some over here.

Jools - Forgot to mention that the fish on your video reminds me of this fish I had before..
Its kind of hard to really see them in that video. do you maybe have a picture of them?

Congratulations.

I think both Saul's and pleco 22 fish nay be among the lower Xingu plecos and L333 is the best term for them all.
My F1 L333 juveniles. They are graceful until full grown. Then they bulk up some.

This is a youngster about 4 cm (SL), and around 7 mnd old. The parents are the specie of Hypancistrus "L-236" Glaser sels. Probely the same as Jools also have fry from. The fry grow fast, and they produce big time.

The never ending story;
Is this a hybrid, or L-287 or is it in fact L-236? Or something els?

I know what you mean Erlend. I have a group of 9 fish that I acquired from Denmark through Germany in mid November and already I have had 5 spawns. Also been so lucky that at the moment 2 different males are spawning at the same time :d . My first batch from late December is already 3,5 cm big.

Time will show what species this really is i guess.

Hi!!

I know the breeder of these fish...I know the parents are wildcaught and are coming from the same shipement ...they were ID's as L236...but for sure it is not an hybrid...again should be labelled as L236 "Glaser"

Cheers

Thanks Frode

Jools, I am sure you got the right L236 if you buy from Glaser. I got the same fish and some will produce the L236 shown on the cover of Mr. Ingo Seidel's book of L-Catfishes. I got some from the first batch that I imported from Glaser.

Well, none yet. My breeders are F2, their parents came from Glaser.

The more I get of these (now more than 10 spawns) the more I think they look a lot like . I am going to get them all out to have a good look, but not one individual looks "more white than black" as you would expect from .

Jools,

Have you noticed how different the depicted individuals of L345 in the Cat-eLog are from each other? The first one has small eyes and pointy head...and none of them are much like the original L345 from DATZ really. I think L345 is a 'ghost', but I have found a lot of new and useful information about similar fishes over at Felix' site (google translate may be useful here...);

http://hypancistrus.chromapark.de/

There are some very resembling ones to the ones you have at that site... :)

All i can say is they are lovely in the flesh!! I find the L no id debate a difficult one as until scientifically described lots of stuff gets lumped and Sold under one No when it can be completly different fish. Any way they are STUNNING and well done.

Hi,

sorry my page is broken, seem to need some specialists to fix that ;-)

If you are not sure, that your L 236 are "real" , I don't think, naming them L 345 is a good idea. There are some different lines of L-236, and many of them don't show this rare white variants. Some of them do, but that does not mean, that they are real L 236, because very nice and white variants are reported among L 400, L 399 and even L 66.

I have 2 different lines of L 345 (that was the number, on the stocklist). Both are so different, that I do not mix them. I could differenciate both from L 400, which seems to be very close. The bodycolour of both groups is grey, even when they are young. Only some members of these groups show some white, when they were young. They are hard to breed, because they are agressive and I have lost all females except of the last one of every group. Since last week I am very glad to have 12 small youngsters. We will see ...
