to encourage new or non Asian-catfish people to try Haras?
Just have to keep it on the front page :D

I used the Asian forum thinking more of the future when someone searches through the forum that they may find the information, being Asian fish... will think on it, whichever it is, it needs to stay active to be seen.

I have now sent a few pics to the cat-elog regarding eggs/fry & juveniles

But until they get entered into the cat-elog here is one photo to be going on with:

L Number banana,

I sell to many residents who live in British Columbia out west. Some make the drive down and pick the fish up and others have me mail them to a US border town address.
Everyone has had no problems bringing fish back across the border into Canada.
They only need an invoice stating the correct scientific name of the fish and the price they paid. I have sent about 70 fish this way in the past 2 years distributed over about 8 customers. I also sell fish to April Ross, Pets Beautiful, but April has an import license and imports lots of Asian Discus so she was set up well for buying 30 L134 at one time.
At least 3 different border crossing points were used.
I do think it is a good idea to call the border people up first and discuss that these are personal purchases and not intended for resale to help assure a smooth crossing.
It helps if you can use a less busy border crossing so things are more personal than the major crossings but all have been used successfully. The keys are noting they are for personal use only and not for resale, correct identification of the fish and your costs.

We seem to be stuck not being able to find any of these or possible losing interest to other cats? I'm still in there if I ever find them but I've been stuck out of town for long stretches renovating my Dad's old house - should be sold soon so I'll have more time to try to find some. Tank is ready but being used at a qt tank for the USD's right now.

Where's everyone else's head at these days with this challenge? Anyone new willing to try? MatsP with your new digs? Nothing like a cute catfish to brighten up a new place - catfish decor :beardy:

No luck even looking for my Hara! Too much stuff going on this summer but winter's coming and the tank is still set up and ready to go. Not being used as a QT for the USD's anymore and as they turned out to be S. Euptera anyway... The tank would have been too small for them, so it's still reserved for the Hara.

Breeding still unheard of with S.euptera? I may have two challenges going!

I'm still in when the fish are.

Are we still doing this?

On May 11, 2011, 5 Hara jerdoni were added to my 29 US gallon "Indian Almond Leaf" tank. This is my first Asian catfish.

They are very tiny and very sweet! :romance-heartstiny:

Maybe they will spawn but I'm leaving that to them. The tank is set up with Indian almond leaves (Terminalia catappa), dried vines from a local Thai restaurant, willow oak leaves (Quercus phellos) for litter on the bottom, and a variety of Asian plants.

It ran for a year before I added the Hara.

If we're still doing the challenge I'll join in.

Thanks!

Still have lucked out on locating them whenever Im ordering or in stores.

Right now I might have a better luck when I figure out which shrimps to order, tend to be in the same vendor list as the haras.
but I'm still up for that challenge once I locate em whenever that happens lol

Strangely enough, I believe mine have spawned.

Here is the first pic of the fry, or should I say juvenile.

Image
This young fish is about 11 mm, TL (7 mm, SL.)

All the egg-laying, hatching, and first days of the fry took place unknown to me. This is the only individual I've seen so far, and he is clearly some 7 to 8 weeks old, I'd guess. If there are other juveniles or more fry, they are hiding in the dark recesses of the tank. I do not see all of the fish, even at feeding time.

I'll post more information about the adults and the tank set-up with dates and so forth on a new thread in this forum.

Thanks. :ymblushing: When I joined the challenge I didn't imagine for a minute that I would ever see fry, and so soon! It seemed rather impossible.

Now that I've got at least one, it must mean that conditions are favorable, so I've made a chronological account in a separate thread:
Hara jerdoni surprise spawning.

Congrats on the spawn they are cute little buggers.

Also I have a bunch of them in various sizes, I got a few to put in my 125 sump tank which also doubles as my driftwood sinking tank and there must be about 2 dozen in there now. I never posted any info because it is accidental or incidental spawning (which means I have no idea as to what triggered it).

Here are a couple pics:

1. Your post date says Dec of 2010, I assume this is a mistake?
2. Do you still need some? I'm willing to part with 6 of my juveniles (check the for sale USA section)

I'm pretty sure there is no way (other than changing the date/time in the server itself) that one could change the date of the post.

point is gone now that they have been bred so quickly :d Plus I'm trying to change up my stocklist right now and getting rid of some fish at this time is proving to be a challenge. Thanks!

Since the start of this challenge, I missed a concert, took a run on a racetrack, started another tank, lost a few fish but haven't added any new ones.
Could never find the Moth cats :-(

I vote on tadpole madtoms.. I have found a fry in my tank, but I want to observe and find out what causes them to breed. They are small enough.

Or maybe Glass cats? (kryp... Minor thingys.)

I think the original rule was...if we actually had rules...that the first of the people taking part who bred that particular fish first got to choose, that was the "prize".

Come up with a new one, we can set up another thread for it.
