i just bought this at a local fish auction ,
it was just label giraffe catfish,
any ideas which one ?
2 pics below i can not do anymore as hes now hidding in 5ft tank !

I think that is an ... macrostoma is the most commonly imported lately.

I don't agree, but we'll need a picture taken from the side to be sure

first; Anaspidoglanis has a far more regular pattern; both the vague bands and the dark spots

second: Anaspidoglanis has a squared-off tail, almost lobed, with a straight edge
whereas Parauchenoglanis has a rounded tail.

third: the pectoral spines. in Anaspidoglanis these are almost straight. but this fish has quite curvy spines.

I think it's a species of Parauchenoglanis. but we need better pictures from the side to be sure.
these aren't easily determinated at all.

Sorry Sid, usually you are bang on but I do not think so this time...Anaspidoglanis has rounded caudal according to Stiassny and others.
Parauchenoglanis has both straight or rounded among them according to the same sources..not the best way to differentiate.

A. macrostoma pattern can be quite variable. The six I had, their patterns varied considerably but quite sure they were all one species. The pectoral spines look a similar to fish I recently had (had being a key word here unfortunately for me)

But I do agree these are hard to determine especially as juveniles and we need better pictures to determine this fish.

if that is true, then we really need to resort out the pics in the catelog, cause that's where I went looking....

all the Anaspidoglanis there got a square tail and the Parauchenoglanis a rounded one.
if it's reverse, then a thorough change of catelog pics is in order.
