Hi,
I came across these at an auction,.
How do you tell the difference in the sexes?
I can find no info on them, any help would be appreciated.

Re: Sturisomatichthy foerschi
I expect it is aka LG6.
I expect males will have "beard" like other Loricariinae.
(And the name Sturisomatichthys foerschi is not valid - nor is any other combination for a Loricariidae with foerschi at the end).

Did you click on the link in the above post? Did you search the forum [top right of this page]?
If you have specific questions after checking those out, please ask - I personally haven't kept this species, so I can't provide much information beyond generic Loricariinae knowledge.

Re: Sturisomatichthy foerschi
Just noticed this post was in "Everything else" rather than "Loricariidae" section of South American Catfish.

Re: Sturisomatichthy foerschi
Now a month later one of my pairs have bred
I have a fish sitting on approx. 20+ eggs
Is there special observations to the feeding that have to be done? and what food do I feed? Do other occupants need to be removed?

Re: Sturisomatichthy foerschi
Great work. I spotted some of these in a local Maidenhead Aquatics not so long ago (Labeled as Sturisomatichthys foerschi).
Fry care would be mainly about getting them to feed. My experience with Sturisoma aureum is that the fry do not move much to get to food, so you need food that gets to the fry - I've found grinding algae wafers on a piece of sandpaper works well to get a powder that floats about in the water. Apistomaster will soon crop up and explain that earthworm sticks work really well and the fry actually moves to them - I haven't tried that.

Re: Sturisomatichthy foerschi
Hi Mats,
When I bought these I ended up with 6.
I put one pair in with small plecs & put the other 4 in a tank by themselves.
The pair have now got about 20+ brownish eggs.
To my pleasure the other 4 have also bred
I have a fish with 30+ greenish eggs & another with 20 brownish eggs.
I now wonder if I have 2 similar species.
Any ideas?

Re: Sturisomatichthy foerschi
Possible, or the green eggs turn brown after a bit? Without a photo of the fish, it's a bit hard to tell...
This article seems to indicate that they have dark green eggs... Graham, I believe, goes by the name of "Mummymonkey" on the forum...
