No lo capturé yo, pero fue capturado en el río Paraná...Bas Pels wrote:Where did you catch this fish? I think it is Argentinian, and you collected it yourself?
¿De donde es este pez? Creo es de Argentina, ¿y usted lo recogió usted mismo?
Yes, if the ID is corret I haven't problem that the pictures go into Cat-eLog...Birger wrote:If the ID is correct would you consider letting those good pictures go into the Cat-eLog?

Well, there are about five, so I think we need a bit more info as while none of them are common imports, I don't think this fish has been exported, so it could be anything!MatsP wrote:Looks like H. margaritifier - and there aren't that many other large ones that have those colours and that sort of dorsal fin.

The size of the dorsal fin in a smaller fish like this one is tricky to gauge. In the head on shot this individual looks slender and so I'd put my guess at although it could well be .
Which river is it from? That'd narrow it down to (probably) a couple of species.

¿Piensas que este ejemplar es un híbrido?medaka wrote:One thing to throw into the mix here, regarding catchment area.
H margaritifer and H regani was seperated by waterfalls along the river Parana, with H margaritifer being found above the falls and H regani below; however, In the later half of the last century due to water courses being changed by man, it may well be that the two species are now interbreeding.
I don't know how one would tell?Do you think this one is a hybrid?
As we know the Paraná River runs through Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. H margaritifer comes from the 'Upper Paraná River' drainage in Brazil. Your specimen, you say comes from the Paraná River in the Corrientes Province of Argentina. He was captured in the Paraná River, Corrientes Province
Hi MatsSo, I take it your conclusion is that it's H. regani then, Mr. Taylor?
