New Trichomycterus

Post by Silurus »

Ferrer, J & LR Malabarba, 2011. A new Trichomycterus lacking pelvic fins and pelvic girdle with a very restricted range in Southern Brazil (Siluriformes: Trichomycteridae). Zootaxa 2912: 59–67.

Abstract

Trichomycterus tropeiro, new species, is described from the headwaters of the rio das Antas, laguna dos Patos system, Southern Brazil. Trichomycterus tropeiro is distinguishable from other species of the genus by the absence of pelvic fins and pelvic girdle, except from Trichomycterus candidus and Trichomycterus catamarcensis. It differs from these two species in several counts and measurements. The apparent endemism of the species is discussed.

This sounds very interesting. I really enjoyed reading some of the papers i've obtained on this family and my ituglanis are some of my favourite fish - if only i saw them a bit more (LOL)

I must speak to Steve about how the others are that different people got from him - mine deffinately show some gravid females so i may design a breeding attempt later in the year.
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!
