pleco breeding

i have bred bushynose before and i was thinking of trying to breed some other plecos or another pair of bushynose. i have a spare 28gal tank any recommendations on what species i should try?

Plenty of different choices.

Part of the answer depends on what is available around where you live, what you'd like to breed, how much you are willing to spend, what the water is like and how much you wish to challenge yourself.

Now, I could list a few different ones, but it's pretty hard to know some of the answers to the above conditions - I think it would be good if you gave us a bit of information first.

Also, there is a thread from about 5-6 days ago discussing exactly the same thing.

i was thinking of the leopard frog pleco, or a snowball pleco. do you any of these are ok? or is there something else thats im not thinking of thats not to hard to breed?

"Snowball" could be at least three different species. I suspect you mean the Hypancistrus variants (

Hypancistrus contradens

,

Hypancistrus sp(L201)

or

Hypancistrus inspector

), and not the quite common in the shops

Baryancistrus sp(L142)

which is rather more rare to breed in aquaria.

In general, the reputation is that both Hypancistrus and Peckoltia are easy to breed.

Now how many Peckoltia can i fit into a 28gallon tank? or how many Hypancistrus contradens can i fit into a 28gallon?

in a similar tank I have 3 females and two males. with many caves

I'd go for 4-6. If they are sexable (not always the case when they are small), I'd suggest 2 males and 3 females.

Prices are pretty difficult - it depends on so many different things: where you live (USA is a BIG place!), what sort of seller (shop, hobbyist, auction, etc). I have seen prices ranging from the low £30 (approx $50) to £75+ ($120) here in England for decent size wild-caught fish.

im from New jersey and i dont really see them around i will keep looking. but what temp/ph should i have the tank water?

There are literally a couple of dozen differet breeding reports/discussions on breeding P. compta. If you use the forum search, I'm pretty sure you can find several.

If you're close enough to Lancaster, PA, you can probably go to That Fish Place and get some. That store carries a lot of plecs, and you wouldn't have to pay shipping costs. Of course I'd give them a call first to check if they're carrying them before you take the ride over, but last time I went they had a tank full of them.
