Brazil Ban being lifted?
I was reading our local fish website. Is there any truth to Ban being lifted?

Thanks,
Ken

Re: Brazil Ban being lifted?
I suspect this is not true. There is no link to confirm this from for example the IBAMA website.
There have been talks about changing the list of allowed exports for at least a year now. This does not mean the ban being lifted, just that a few more species are added to the list of "allowed for export".
There are no Hypancistrus on the list of allowed exports as of right now:

Thanks Mats,
I probably should rephrase that and not imply the Ban being lifted but more species allowed. The guy posting is a local retailer and I'm not sure where he got his info. He may just be saying more species "allowed" like you said.

Re: Brazil Ban being lifted?
Yes. But again, I don't see any notable changes on the list as it stands today. But it has been talked about for some time. Whether this means that other Hypancistrus (for example) are allowed for export or not is a different question. I can't say.

I talk regularly with a breeder/importer/fish store owner in the midwest, and according to him, Brazil will allow some of the now "banned" species to be shipped (260s were one of the species mentioned, but as Mats said, we have nothing concrete - yet).
Never give up until you have released your unused capacities for service and shared your gift with others. One enkindled spirit can set hundreds on fire.

Ugh I hate it when unknowing retailers start crap like that. Please set them straight.
I've also been following this and there is NOTHING concrete yet at all. As Mats said there are a few species that have been speculated will be on the not-banned list, a few hypan, pseuda and panaque. But very limited number of species, and not yet, we've been waiting over a year and likely longer the way they work down there.

Just now talking to a west coast importer, and he says 260s will NOT be on the released list. So nothing new there as far as 260s go.
