L600 spawn 3rd time

Post by PseudaSmart »

I came home today to another surprise, the large L600 pair in my 300 gal stock tub also spawned in the last few days during the distraction with my other pair of L600's. The cave is buried under driftwood and I needed to use a mirror to look inside the cave. I will leave them in the cave (like I wanted to do with the other pair) until the eggs hatch.

A further bonus was my L129's spawned again and produced 22 fry! I will enjoy this while it lasts.
Almost 3,000 gallons solely for raising and breeding Pseudacanthicus.
Spawned to date: L25, L65, L97, L114, L160, L185, L427, LDA07 and P. leopardus (L600).

Update
The good timess have slowed, I have lost almost all of the eggs from the second spawn because I did not get the egg hatchery right. I have 2 more days until they hopefully hatch. The good news is that big guy in the tank is taking great care of his spawn and fending off intruders.

I want to thank everyone who offered help directly and by PM. I especially want to thank Cristoffer for all his wise advice. I will post updates as things develop.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and questions!
Cost at LFS? I have seen regular L114's for $60-70 for 3" a few times a year.
Photos of the adults? My pair is shown on the L114 page of the Cat-eLog. Since they have been in the 300gal stock tub for the past year I do not have good natural setting photos. When I get back from Brazil I will put them into a 180gal for updated photos.

Update: The fry from this spawn are growing nicely. They should be free swimming by the weekend. The 5 remaining eggs from the second spawn hatched but died after 2 days. It was a tough learning experience.

James! You must add gravel into that plastic tank! But I think you will do much better with the fry in a 70 - 100 liter tankt with very good filtration and cleaning!

In the bottom of the plastic box, there will be an bacteria film. Carnevore plecos like Pseudas and Lepos are very sensetive against this!

I finally got back from my trip to Southern Brazil to find that once again my wife did a great job caring for my fish room. I am a very lucky guy. Here is an updated picture of some of my fry, there are still over 200! I will be moving them to larger tanks this weekend. My wife's record is still intact for 1st spawns when I travel south. My albino blue-eyed ancistrus spawned while I was gone.

Very beautiful!Keep us updated.

An interesting observation is that the fry in the picture above exhibit an 'L114' tail pattern...How are the rest of the juvies colored?

Thanks,

Hello James!

They still look like orginal L114s, comparing to mine! I think they will develop their fins in the next few months.

They are looking really good!

Ole. I'll add a few pics soon. I fed my L114 with salmon pellets and it seemes to work fine sens they are carnevore plecos. I lix with green wafles too. They grow very fast on this food and seemes to bee in very good condition!

I appreciate the careful review of the pictures. I chose the picture because on that day most of them looked like L114's. Today they look like L600's with solid tails and color on the edge of their dorsal fins. As Cristoffer pointed out, they change daily as they grow. With luck and hard work I hope to raise the 200 fry to selling size and take photos of each one. Perhaps this will be a large enough sample size from a pair of similar (L600's)parents to determine if L114s and L600s are variations of the same or different. A peer review is always a good thing if anyone would be interested.

Thanks in Advance,
Jim

L600 is a "invented" L-number (it's not officially issued by DATZ). It is this .
