ID Help Please???
Purchased him a little over a year ago, last one out of a tank of labeled pictus....knew from the start he wasn't any sort of regular pictus, that I've ever seen. He only ever comes out after dark so got these couple pics during a through tank cleaning....His scarred dorsal and tail fin are from being housed with a mytus leucophasis that he didn't have enough spots to hide from but he's been fattening up and doing much better in a tank with lots of hybrid jellybean convict fry to munch
By his whiskers He's south american of some sort but beyond that I've no idea, please Help......

The head is reminiscent of (the eyes appear very Rita-like), but not the long adipose fin. Do you think you might be able to get some better photos?

Re: ID Help Please???
Thanks so much, your right thats pretty close except for that fin, been a long time lurker and reader of the forums, finally figured I look for an expert opinion since i had him cornered today......heres a few older pics from the last time I moved him to a different tank.....Since separating him from the mystus, He hasn't grown much longer than about six inches in the last 9 months, and he was about 4 inches long when I bought him, if that helps any.......Thanks, Jason
As seen in the first pic he's never had any of the extra nostril barbels typical of Bagridae...

Re: ID Help Please???
Your second set of pictures make me think that you have some kind of a Pimelodella instead. Maybe ? Head shape looks a little unusual for this genus, more like Iheringichthys or Pimelodus.

Thanks, again closer guesses than I've been able to manage. In the next week or two he'll be getting moved into a bigger tank, hopefully I can find a better container to be able to photograph him up close when I need to move him out.

Re: ID Help Please???
Interesting riddle. I'd agree that the two sets of pics appear to point toward different families. Looking forward to the next, hopefully decisive pic set.
