Sliding Text-box?

Post by GoldenFeather »

I was keying in and the text box slid sideways while entering a post. I couldn't bring it back into alignment. I tried grabbing it to drag it back, nope. I've uploaded a screen shot, can't see the text to the left. Not sure what I did wrong? Finally I hit restore but lost wha data I hadn't previewed. Please let me know what I did to screw it up, I'd like to avoid it. Thanks, GF

Can't see any screenshot, and I'm not entirely sure what you did or what it looked like.

Yeah, Mats' is right, we need to know what you were typing. Assuming you were writing a reply to a forum topic, it "feels" like the same issue as here.

Something I would like to get to the bottom of, it appears to be something messing up the textarea wrap property which, technically speaking, can happen via a number of routes not least browser plug ins like ad blockers.

Bottom line is I need to be able to replicate it (see it in action) before I think I'll be able to fix. Really want to fix it though!

Cheers,

Jools

It may well be related, but it seems that the fix for IE in the other thread may solve that problem, but I don't believe it will work for this case...

Hi Jools and Mats,

Sorry for the delay. I hadn't realized I hadn't uploaded the screen shot. Here it is below. Regard replication??? I actually tried to figure out what I had done but couldn't. It reminded me of photoshop so first reaction I tried to grab it and drag it back. Duh. I know that I hit some combination of something, rapidly and it slid.

Before closing, this may have been spoken of someplace else... maybe just point me to it if so. But are the text boxes intended to be small now. The right margin its the center of the screen and won't drag open – right. Just down. It's the same in pm's.

BTW, I'm only noticing a few changes due to my unfamiliarity with the site still. Some things I have to think, 'was that here before'? Like the little arrows pointing up at bottom left of all the posts linking to the top of the page. Great feature. But then it may have been there all along. I like the new catfishes at the tops of the pages. I think they're new... great art.

Thanks for everything yeah?

Yes, the text boxes are supposed to be small now.

I'm not entirely sure what you are complaining about - you do have scrollers on both sides of your post, and the bottom one is scrolled to the right a little bit, breaking off the beginning of the text, which I think is caused by having very long text that can't be broken up (e.g. a very long link to something, perhaps?) - but I can't reproduce that right now, so maybe it's something else. I'm fairly sure it's something in the post itself, rather than a systematic problem on this site.

OK, so a different issue, it's good to know it's on Safari and not IE. Safari problems are a lot easier to deal with.

I agree with Mats though, this appears to be unexpected behaviour if you type something very long.

Like this:

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

In IE, for example, it wraps around and doesn't create the horizontal scroll bar.

Jools

PS Text input box size reset are some experimentation this morning.

I hadn't even noticed that slide bar. It would likely have fixed it. gadz However, as you can see at right margin, all words are whole. There are no long texted pieces.

Jools, I think Safari responds in like w/ IE in regards a long piece of data. I don't normally see the slide bars ergo... no excuses but what brings them about? I thought perhaps it was a preview outcome, not.

Thanks for your valuable time and considerations,
GF

Judging by the vertical scrollbar (the one on the right of the post), we can only see about a quarter of the text, so I suspect your post may contain a link to some web-page up above the text we can see (or below).

I couldn't find the actual post, so I don't know what it contains/contained - I found some similar one, but it certainly doesn't contain the image that I can see the end tag of.

Hi Guys,

I wanted to let you know I just did it again. I don't know/think I did this the last time but there is the possibility.

The lower scrollbar came up as I used the mouse to highlite a sentence and went beyond the box with mouse still activated. The box will slide on forever it seemed...

Thought you'd want to know. Perhaps I did use a long piece of text earlier but Safariiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii has always wrapped for me.

Thanks again for everything,
GF
