European fish

I used to keep European fish. But I refused to keep them, and now keep only plecos.
I kept a lot of different species from Ukraine, and all species that I kept I collected myself in our lakes and rivers.

Now I don't keep native fish species, but I steel have like to collect them take some photos and release back to the river.

Now the water is too cold and it is difficult to catch any fish at all.

Nice. Do you have any habitat shots?

Also, are you sure that is Gobio gobio, as there are dozens of almost identical Gobio and Romanogobio species in the Ukraine?

There is only one species of Gobio (G. gobio) and one species of Romanogobio (R. belingi) known from the Dniepr River drainage (G. sarmaticus is also presumed to be present in the Dniepr River drainage, but this awaits confirmation).

The fish is definitely not R. belingi, and with a snout length that looks to be longer than the postorbital distance, is unlikely to be G. sarmaticus.

Yes, mostly we catch only Gobio gobio. But Once have cought some other species. But unfortunatly I don't have a picture of it.

I used to keep silurus glanis. It is very interesting catfish. But it is impossible to keep it in a tank more then a year or two due to its huge size.

I used to keep some species of genus Gymnocephalus. And I still dream to create a tank with Gymnocephalus acerinus. But it isn't an easy fish to adopt and to keep.

Fish from Black sea (unfotunatly the water was cold this summer and I took only a few photos):
Lepadpgaste lepadogaster - it is one of my favourite fish from black sea. This fish resembles me pleco, but it is a carnivorous species.




Hippocampus guttulatus microstephanus - the other one of my favourite fish from black sea.

Very nice photos! The one of the seahorse returning to the water is my favorite.

It's a sort of serendipity - just recently I was thinking to myself that I know so little about the fish I've been catching all my childhood and youth. Even their sci names I do not know.

It'd be cool for my education to know the common names of the fish in that long first list. I recognize some of them from names and from photos. Nalim (burbot?), Yorsh, it's larger cousin Nosar', Bychok, Krasnopyorka ili Plotva? Okun' (perch) looks superb.

Yes, but I collect only flat stones for aquarium. Flat stones are the best for plecos.
