Why does my Pleo do this?
My Plecostomus does this. He will lay in the same spot for hours or even days and do the same thing. He has this rock in his aquarium that he loves so much. Why do they take such a liking to certain objects?

Re: Why does my Pleo do this?
Plecos like to have somewhere to hide. If you don't have a suitable cave, it'll find the second best thing, which in your case is a rock that it can hide next to. The more hiding options, the less scared the fish will be, because it knows that there's somewhere to hide nearby.

I should note, that Killer isn't afraid of me and He also looks forward to being fed each night. He also likes me paying attention to him. What a pleco, huh?

Re: Why does my Pleo do this?
That rock is like a blanket for a baby, it provides security. My common stays sucked to the roof inside one of my ornaments until it decides to come out and take a few laps around the tank. My Royal claimed a small piece of wood (nothing is allowed to touch it's wood) that it lays on all day long. I have a rubber nose that lived behind the intake to the filter for 2 months before it started to explore around.
As Mats said the best thing is to provide a little variety. I have found my plecs will kind of try out new spots to see if they like them. I have about a dozen hiding spots in my main tank and they all get investigated every now and again.
Also is Killer the one that can be seen on Youtube?

That's a cool fish you have, and now that I know more I would think that rock is not so much a place to hide, rather a well worn place to rest.KillerThePlecostomus wrote:Yes, Search for Killer the Plecostomus or search for the user 'Eccadairius' and you will find some videos of Killer my pleco.
Re: Why does my Pleo do this?
just like my plecs they stake out their territory I think it makes them feel safe. they know if their tank mate harasses them they can retreat to their side and they will be safe. the blanket comparison is great. in my case my plecs territory includes various pieces of drift wood so the move from one to the other when they come out from food. try giving your plec more "blankets" (hiding places) and see what happens

Re: Why does my Pleo do this?
neither is mine she shifts from drift wood to drift wood to the front of the tank when I come and then just stares at me until I feed her. lol
also is that the only thing that is big enough for the pleco to suction onto apart from the glass that might be it mine like to be stuck to something
