New Pseudolaguvia

Post by Silurus »

Radhakrishnan, KV, S Sureshkumar & HH Ng, 2011. Pseudolaguvia austrina, a new species of sisorid catfish (Osteichthyes: Siluriformes) from Peninsular India. Ichthyological Exploration of Freshwaters 21: 377–383.

Abstract

Pseudolaguvia austrina, new species, is described from Kunthi River, a tributary of Bharathapuzha River originating from the Western Ghats in Peninsular India. It differs from congeners in having a pale brown body, a rhomboidal-shaped thoracic adhesive apparatus almost covering the entire thoracic area, a strongly projecting snout with the premaxillary teeth partially exposed when the mouth is closed, and a short (8.8-14.7 % SL), deep (10.3-14.7 % SL) caudal peduncle. This represents the first record of this genus from Peninsular India.

And it's (thanks to HH) now in the Cat-eLog. If someone with the PDF can fill in the usual fields (author, year, type locality, etymology, distribution, and if it's not too complex, the identification) in the Cat-eLog entry, it would make it that much better.

I'm still waiting for the pdf (from the publisher) myself. I have the uncorrected page proofs for anyone who wants to have a go at populating the fields.

I'd be interested in a copy of anything on this species.

HH - do you think this species is likely to ever be commercially exported?
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!

This company claims to have them available for export (it's the fish listed as Hara elongata).
