Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about its behavior in the aquarium? Is it reclusive or an active swimmer? Why is it called the Slobbering Catfish? I know generally its behavior and aquatic needs are typical of other large predatory Pims.

The common name in Venezuela is bagre garbanzo (chickpea catfish) or hipe. According to Roman (Peces de Aqua Dulce de Venezuela II) it reaches one meter in length, has tasty flesh, and is not commonly encountered in the Apure. It seems to be more common in the Orinoco delta.

my one....
my one was sold to me as an african grey shovelnose!!!!! but it was pretty active and got on well with its tank mates a clarius batrachus and a snake head. Bit of a mixture i know but that was ten years ago! Any way he passed away mysteriously one night. No strange behaviour and no disease visible. Actually I had a giraffe catfish with them and they all got on fine untill ....the grey disapeared....

its called the drooling cat because of the barbels..

ok ok ok...yes this catfish is called the slobbering catfish..also known as the drooling catfish because it has thicker barbles and looks like its drooling or "slobbering". They get about 30". Not active during the day(have talked to a person that had one at 13-15" long). Im not sure about night..most likely more active during the night because they are most likely nocturnal. I heard all day long they perch in a "u" shape like a Juruense(sitting on their two fins). One of the coolest pims out there in my opinion.
