Your corys would certainly prefer a finer grain substrate, e.g. sand.

Nice. I love them portholes too. I know little about corys but mine did fine with a smaller, smooth gravel substrate (0.1"-0.3") having a bit of sand mixed in. Please, do not read anything between the lines. It's a 2 cent comment.

Re: A few pict of the fish that keep me
Very nice pics, I noticed the plec in the piece of wood with the hole in it. Is that hole something you did, or it just came that way? Is that local Florida wood or store bought? Also is that a solid piece of log and if so how did you get it to sink? I would like to add something like that to my tank so any info would be great.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Re: A few pict of the fish that keep me
That peice of wood came from the oak trees that the huracanes took down a few years back.I cut the trees up for fire wood .That is the fork in a branch .I drilled it with a large wood bit holes go all the way tru in about four places .the hoplo stayed in them untill they grew to big now the smaller fish use them. The wood was raw when I drilled it so I put it in an out side pond for about 6mos. it was heavy enough to sit upright in the tank .It must weight 50 pounds

Nice! Those shish-kabob skewers work very nicely, eh? I sometimes load mine up all the way so the twigs can eat without the plecos bugging them.
Good idea with the oak - kind of like a purple martin house. Fish apartments.
