It is indeed.

If you wouldn't mind following the "netiquette" of not writing all capitals, which is considered "shouting" or "being loud".

Just to be clear. It is allowed to use capitals in a word or sentence for emphasis - it's just like all things - in moderation, it's fine. Too much (or too little - capitals are also useful to indicate start of sentence, names, etc) is bad.

Im still a firm believer that the whole problem people in this forum have with using capitals is because they have nothing better to do and are nitpicking and quite frankly should grow up and get lives. PLANET CATFISH IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. And mats some people just use caps to draw attention (for help or sales of fish) The only people who have problems with it are old folks. Im sure if any of you seen the following message you wouldnt comment on the use of the sellers capitals.

L046 FOR SALE FULLY GROWN BREEDING GROUP OF TEN £10 THE LOT.

It might seem trivial, but there are very good reasons why PC encourages communicating clearly using correct spellings, cases, grammar, and punctuation, while avoiding local, common names for fishes.

It is because this forum is international, with many users for whom their first language is not English. I struggle to read sentences with no punctuation or capital letters, so I really don't envy folks from other countries trying to understand it.

Nobody expects perfect English, but a bit of effort goes a long way for everyone.

Just trying to lighten up a bit after our friends very rude comments.
I must say he beats me at being rude and that takes some doing.
So please back to greeting a fellow fish keeper who must by now think we are all either snotty kids or grumpy old ladies.

Yeah, whispering, it gets a bit "old-skool-geek" but whispering in the "classic" sense is simply a PM. ITRW, when you whisper to someone the point of it is that they only hear. In many (especially older) chatrooms the whisper function essentially sends what you type to one person while the other folks in the 'room know you're doing it but don't know what is said.

There is an arachaic use of ) to denote a cupped hand from the early 90's that didn't last past the usegroups era and may have been UK only.

Whispering doesn't have a wider implementation because it starts arguments. ("What did you just say")? Etc and also, in slower than real time conversation forums such as this one, that kind of feature would make things harder to follow.

In terms of a stage whisper, the smaller text or the pseudobbcode [whisper]His fly is down[/whisper] would suffice or there are a few smilies that would get your message across.

A lot of this culture might seem silly or picky but it comes from the fact that it all began with techies and, as a group, they are mega-concious of even the smallest detail. For example, I've seen me spent days looking for a missing full stop, bracket or semi-colon. They're also tend to be poor verbal communicators that overcompensate in excellent written conversation. So, while typing in caps might seem trivial to some, it's pretty extreme to someone who chokes on their coffee when they see a double space in a post. :-)

In my personal view, I think observance of modern netiquette avoids dumbing down (m8) and also ensures accessibility for an international audience.

I needed my dictionary. Because - facetious = like facet, facet being the name of all the sides of a diamond does not help much

but yes, I was being facetious :d (one should use a new word in order to remember it)

Yeah, one of those coincidences, I think it's from the French facétieux - nothing to do with face(t).
