Re: Synodontis ornatipinnis?
Do you know where they came from?
I suspect they are hybrids, in which case they probably came from the Czech republic.
Genuine ones come from the Republic of Congo.
The shop should be able to find out from their wholesaler.

No i asked him and he didn't know. He couldn't remember when they came in (probably sep/okt)and i think they are from Glaser Germany.
He thought it was bought as decoura.
But like you said it can be hybrids but i hope it is ornatipinnis.

It is close but to me the bands on the caudal and dorsal are off and I can see decora like color, hard to explain that. But like you said it can be hybrids but i hope it is ornatipinnis.
These will still be a nice looking syno regardless and if grown out more you will likely see differences to a true ornatapinnis.

Lovely fish!
I don't keep synos, but if I did this is a species I think I would go for. Seems to me its become something of a synodontis 'holy grail'. If I saw some in a shop I'd snap them up so long as I had RichardB and co standing next to me saying it was the real deal.
In terms of -are they or aren't they- perhaps the price you paid is the best indicator...?
Either way, the above fish are very pretty and almost irresistible. Looking at the catelog it seems the pattern changes to more 'stripey' as they grow...?

The price? It was a really strange deal cause he had robbianus in the same tank and they costed 24 euro, but mine, they cost only 9,5 euro. Very nice price i think.
It doesn't matter to me if they are hybrids or not. They have 5-6 more in the store and i think i will buy them all haha.

Re: Synodontis ornatipinnis?
Sorry laptop crashed last night so this post was previously lost
How big are these individuals?
Juvie ornatipinnis should resemble deeper & shorter bodied Brichardi & as they grow the pattern changes a little to more resemble decora. In all cases the patterning isn't really very bold as with the fish shown in the pictures, which strongly suggests hybrid. That said these are not typical of the hybrids i've seen offered as ornatipinnis.
genuine ornatipinnis i've seen, which are very few have sold for £85 here in the UK (many years ago). Hybrids have sold for £10 - £85 depending on where they were offered
