Food question for a "common pleco"

I have a Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus and had a question regarding feeding.
I've read the article on feeding plecos and was unsure on one thing.
I've been feeding him fresh veggies like cucumber and zucchini, but wanted to know if the algae wafers I fed him originally would be a good idea in addition to the vegetables. Are the veggies enough on their own? Or do the wafers offer extra nutritional value?

I feed mine a mixture of things. You can certainly feed algae wafers too. For larger fish, I recommend JBL Novo Pleco XL.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'll add them back to the food roster, want to keep things varied, just wasn't sure if they had anything the veggies didn't.

He's not that big, only about 8.5", has been for almost six months.

8.5" is fairly big for a pleco overall, even if it's only about half the size your fish would get to under good conditions. I'm counting anything above about 6-7" as "large" in this context.

My personal opinion is that the more variation the better it is in terms of diet.

for example, my main tanganyikan syno tank this week has had, live whole earthworms, fresh live oysters, blanched mange tout, raw potato, tetra prima & malawi cichlid pellets. (mmmmm)

mine gets prepared food during the day and then his fruit and veg at night.

he eats everything the synos get he's in with as far as prepared, but his favs are the defrosted hikari: tubifex, bloodworms,krill,shrimp etc

He also likes sinking earthworm sticks, sinking Hikari carnivore pellets, sinking shrimp pellets.

He loves romaine lettuce, mango, zuchinni, cucumber, sweet bell pepper strips (only yellow and orange and red, he won't eat the green ones, mushrooms, broccoli stems, etc

I haven't tried him on broccoli yet, but I'll pick some up. Broccoli and zucchini are some of those few veggies I'm not tempted to snack on myself! I'll only have to keep my boyfriend from eating them.
