Same as its been for the past 9 years ..... to have my top 5 I don't have !!!!
Of course they won't all happen but this year is my best chance ever to get some crossed off.

Re: New Year’s resolution 2011
To stop buying more catfish than I have tanks for!
Its so easy to order fish, but then the next day you realize you don't really know where your going to put them when they come in. As a result I keep loosing just about every grow-out tank I set up to being a species tank. I finally setup a fish room this spring and now its going to need to be expanded already if I don't knock it off.
My second resolution is to try to take a stab at a species or two of the riverine Synodontis this year. I've been pretty focused on Loricariidae for awhile and would welcome something a bit different that I haven't tried before.

Re: New Year’s resolution 2011
The trick, I find in my fishroom at least, is to always have one tank running empty (or just with the ubiquitous cherry shrimp). Maybe the rule should be 1 unit in 100 units of volume! It's a very good resolution though and I think one of the "higher truths" of fishkeeping.

Re: New Year’s resolution 2011
Good topic! My catfishy new years resolution are to
a) Get the breeding register up and running at this site (finally!)
b) Really put some effort into spawning the that I have.
c) So far I've bred and raised Callichthyidae (2 genera), Loricariidae(5 genera) and Auchenipteridae(1 genus). Time to acquire groups of other families to expand that list. Must try harder!
d) Get collecting in 2011.

So, you're slowing down to a run then? However, is this not half of the resolution, what will you do with the "free time"?Silurus wrote:To name fewer new catfish.

Re: New Year’s resolution 2011
HH, does that mean that you will name lots of OTHER fish, or just that you will spend more time doing something else (keeping fish, time with your daughter, etc)? Certainly, in itself, it doesn't sound like a particularly good thing...

Re: New Year’s resolution 2011
I'm going to divide the time I try to save from describing fewer new catfish to:
(1) Spend more time with my daughter
(2) Work on catfish phylogeny rather than describing new species
(3) Work on other aspects of fish biology (conservation?) and not necessarily on catfishes (this is of lower priority than the first two aims).

That's a little too dramatic indeed.....Jools wrote:We should all try to help with that!Marc van Arc wrote:To prevent myself from quitting the hobby......
I was refering to the Auchenipteridae hobby; I can't picture myself without keeping fishes!

My resolution is to try to breed Leporacanthicus triactis - I think they may be a bit small yet, but you never know how much they will grow in a year...

Re: New Year’s resolution 2011
I am going to organize my fishroom. I have so much stuff that it gets in the way of putting tanks and fish where they should be.
I am going to breed an L-number other than my newly prolific pairs of Dwarf BN.
I am going to get more cories to breed in tanks where I can collect the eggs. I have too many species and some have too many individuals. I lose more spawns to the lack of organization than anything else.
I am going to retire from work so I can play with the fish more.

Re: New Year’s resolution 2011
1)Save my sick L278 first and foremost.
2)Buy a house after my wedding in March, that way I can build my fishroom rather than have an hour round trip to where it is set up currently.
3)Rebuild my collection after the oodinium wipeout of the second half of this year.
4)Breed as many catfish as possible.

Happy New Year!
1) Separate my two big community tanks into smaller tanks.
2) Find enough corys to make a really wonderful display in the main tank.
3) Find more unusual twigs.
4) Find a way to equip my motorbike with a bucket/air combo for madtom hunting in Ontario.
