Can you help me determine what type of Synodontis this is?

Post by immune »

I was given this little guy as a gift and cannot determine what species he is. He is about two inches right now and spends most of the day hours under a rock. I turned on the actinic bulb last evening to watch his night time activities and saw no inverted swimming. He did however swim gracefully along the sand substrate playing with my clown loaches and investigating my juvie Oscar.

I had thought initially that he was probably a synodontis Eupertus but as I stated while viewing him he never became inverted.

Any thoughts?

Thanks and happy holidays!

It would help very much to have a shot of the fish from the side.

It looks to have Rift lake catfish attributes but is still unclear to tell, if using a digital camera try using the macro setting.

Birger, doesn't all rift-lake synos have a V-shaped pattern on the tail-fin?

Any idea about adult size/temperament? I have him with my (all juvies) 2 clown loaches, one albino bristle nose pleco, and one albino tiger Oscar. The tank is a 75 gallon with lots of hides. Should he be okay in there?

Also, as far as food go I feed a diet of blood worms, dried shrimp, algea disks, cucumber, mango, carrots, and live ghost shrimp to the inhabitants of the tank. Is there anything I should add for him?

Any specific health issues I should watch out for?

Sorry about the questions I just want to make sure I am capable of taking care of him.

Immune to answer your questions on size and behaviour follow this thread http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... 71#p207071

There should be no health issues and should eat all standard foods no problem.

No...Rift lakes encompasses all these lakes so we have , and even in Lake Tanganyika where they mostly have this pattern there is but I thought this particular fish was a hybrid, I just wanted to make sure.
