lie to spouse?

Post by FatCat »

Anyone else find it necessary to lie about how much we pay for Fish? Also things like driftwood for example. Dont think she would understand why I had to pay so much for a fish that I couldnt resist or a peice of wood.

I had an ex that would carefully critique my tanks to see if I added anything new. He knew exactly how many fish were in each tank.

Now I'm spoiled, Bob probably knows just how many fish are in each tank, but he doesn't mind when I come home with a fish cooler, as long as I know where I'm going to put them already, hehe.

My two foot tank grew to a four foot tank in my then girlfrieds flat (now wife, so she couldn't have been that pi**ed off) when she went away for two weeks. Now I just wait till she goes away and hope she doesn't notice when she gets back. It never works. I just got my L091 and she arrived home as it still sat in the bag in the tank. She didn't notice until I went to release it. :x

The best I heard was a bout a guy who waited till his wife went away, emptied half the water out fo his tank, put wet towels round the base and told her on her return that it started leaking. He then went out and bought a bigger one!!!!!!
My wife made the mistake of buying me a 2 ft tank and it grew to 7ft.

I have always told my wife "If you feel like you have to ask, you probably don't want to know".

The one time she found out that I paid $120 U.S. for six Synodontis multipunctatus she (as expected) blew a gasket! Within six months however, I was cranking out dozens and dozens of baby fish that I was selling for $12-$20 apiece!
She has since learned then to trust my spending habits (wisely or unwisely, I haven't figured that one out quite yet!).

Sincerely,

:funny: hehe, some of these stories make me REALLY value how good I have it here now :)

A good friend of mine used to collect rare pike and Central and South American cichlids. As long as he brought home bright colorful fish, he wasn't in trouble, but when he brought home some drab, gray, ordinary looking fish, he'd get the third degree, lol. It seems she had him figured out, and he could only find the rare stuff he wanted as juveniles, and they wouldn't be colored up yet, lol!

He's since switched to killies, so the home life should be much smoother sailing, lol!

Wow this is more benificial than I had anticipated! Picking up some good material and technique here 8) Im pretty fortunate with a good wife, however I feel I need to round down a few digits due to the guilt from my years of complaining about her spending habbits. Which did work :D . Or maby she learned to do the same thing Im doing :? Its all good, If I didnt have my fish to talk about she wouldnt get to hear me speak.

this whole thread is ROFLMAO

My girlfriends always liked the fish, but the amount of cash spend on it was no issue at all...other problems always were much more important, like keeping them from running away with another dude or me from getting thoroughly fed-up with all the wining and lying and giving them the boot and the finger!

I'm cured from any urge towards any relationship with a female for a looooong time now (except for fish of course) and I definitely like it to stay that way.

Less hassle!

I feel the same way. At least you have a reason why you aren't togther though. My ex gf just told me she didn't want to go out anymore and never gave a reason....since I switched colleges to be closer to her I thought we could still be friends, but she doesn't want our lives to have a thing to do with each other anymore. At least this is a better school (U of M) than MTU.

She always gave me a hard time about my fish anyways after the first few months.

Another story:
This isn't about a spouse eiter since I am a bit young for that, but I bought a couple more synodontis eupterus as buddies for the one I already had. However, I never told me mom (who is into fish, but not like me), or anyone else about it. Since they still just hide in the rocks all day no one noticed for a long time. About one month later, out of the blue, my mom asked about how I had 2 synos (really 3 total) and I told her I had no idea. It turns out while I was at work my sister would sneak in my room to watch my tanks and told her about how there was 2 in there. I never actually admitted that there were 3 until a few months later, but by then it was way to late to return them. :-D

I never did lie to my girlfirend about the cost of fish she know how much they where I always bring her with me when I want to get some fish, so when we got merried I promised her that I would not spend my own $$$ to buy fish and I would use the fish I breed to buy fish stuff, I always make it a point to bring fish to every club meeting I go to (and I belong to a lot of fish clubs) just incase I want to bid on some fish and fish stuff from the Auction table, now I actually have way to many fish and no where to put them nor the time to take care of all of them, it actually got worse now that I got the buying power, breeding fish is a good way to offset the cost of keeping them just imagine I use up about 5 lbs of fish food a month, a lot of fish store will gladly give you store credit for extra fish..
