Nederlandstalige sectie / Dutchspoken section ?
Ik heb met Jools de mogelijkheden besproken van een nederlandstalige sectie op planetcatfish (een franstalige is er al).
Zijn er mensen die hier intresse in hebben?
Gaarne je reactie hierop.

I talked over the with Jools the possibility of a dutchspoken section on planetcatfish (a frenchspoken section allready exists).
Are there any people intrested in such a section?
Please add your thoughts.

Re: Nederlandstalige sectie / Dutchspoken section ?
I'm strongly against this. Before you know it, every country(*) will want its own section and the whole thing falls apart. This is an international community and the main language is English.
That may be more difficult to some people, yet it's certainly more fun and worthwhile getting to know people worldwide and their experiences with catfishes.
I sincerely hope Jools is not going to allow this.
Just my thoughts.

And judging by the french section, it's unlikely to be a blinding success.
Edit: The french section has had 293 posts. That's just under 60 posts per year, or 5 a month.

I'm with Marc on this one!
don't split it up please
if you do, count on me sticking solely to the English section, I can and will be pretty mulish on this one.
my second argument is less nice, but then what else is new:
we -the Dutch- learn English in the first year of high school/secondary school.
today it's even taught to 10 year old kids in primary school......
if the English on the forum (I'm not talking about scientific papers, just the forum!) is too hard for a Dutch person
me think one should get his or hers priorities sorted out and re-learn some "kiddy stuff" again; the English language.
it's very simple and easily done. even a 10 year old can do it......

Re: Nederlandstalige sectie / Dutchspoken section ?
I agree with Sid and Marc
It was hard to learn English, but i managed. Now I'm able to communicate with everyone who took the same trouble, and those who were lucky to have been raised in english in the first place
Why would I support a Dutch sub-forum? We are with a few (perhaps 20 people from the Netherlands visit PC weekly, I guess) and thet's far too few to keep us all informed
Questions will not be answered, and the knowledge posted - mostly by Sid en Marc - will not be available for anyone else
A waste of time and resources, in my eyes

worse, since neither Marc nor me will go in there, it's gonna be pretty silent.....Questions will not be answered, and the knowledge posted - mostly by Sid en Marc - will not be available for anyone else
I'm not boasting, but...
what the hewck i AM boasting.
As of now; me and Marc are THE 2 Dutch authorities on catfish-care on this forum.
there's other people here that know far more than the two of us combined, but those people ain't Dutch!
so if just the two of us won't show up in that section, there's not much point in setting it up, is there?
nah, let us stick to the English part of Planetcatfish.
it's 1 big mostly happy family (yeah, I'm a pain in the arse, but I'm tryin to be the shepherd you know ) most of the time.
let's be lumpers and not splitters ;)

I think you might have the most warnings without actually managing to get banned (warnings expire after 6 months).sidguppy wrote:it's 1 big mostly happy family (yeah, I'm a pain in the arse, but I'm tryin to be the shepherd you know ) most of the time.
I was genuinely unsure of this suggestion. I liked the inclusivity of it, but it does appear that it's not widely supported and indeed the French language forum is less than a success. I shall move this to resolved now (unless I hear voices in the splitter camp) as it appears not to be a good idea.let's be lumpers and not splitters ;)

wich surprises me quite a bit; I'd expected to be banned a number of times and it didn't happen.I think you might have the most warnings without actually managing to get banned (warnings expire after 6 months).
maybe I'm a very smart fellow and I only get insulting and offensive every 7 months?
meh, I confess, I didn't know about the 6 month period, really
