Feeding meaty foods to my pl*co

Post by pmnovak1 »

I have a leopard pl*co and I'm told that he will like more meaty foods. I'm quite new to this and trying to figure out how to feed him these.

I bought some frozen shrimp and bloodworms but they all float. I have some bottom dweller pellets but he doesn't seem to like them.

How do you get frozen food down there for him to eat? Or am I missing something obvious.

Thanks,

Paul

It will eventually sink. You could also try putting the bloodworms/brine shrimp in your net, running it through some water, and then put it in your tank. It should sink right away.

Most regular fish flakes, and pellets or crumbles are meat based, so you really don't need to go to the special effort of bloodworms and the like for him, unless its something you want to try :)

The best (and easiest) way to direct frozen food to where you want is to use a dropper. Details of the method I use in this post.

yeah, once you get them eating, they'll widen their horizons, I've got a baby juruense catfish that loves tetra's crisps and spirulina flakes, the latter more, for some reason.

Some plecos are so secretive you'll never see them unless it's feeding time, and even then it's rare. if you see him and he's got a good pudgy stomach I wouldn't worry much.

Try him with some prawns, not the most nutritional food but good to bulk up its diet- my plecos love them, and you can stop them floating by attaching them to a stone or bogwood with rubber bands. :P
