The spilotus require the same care as the albater.

Good luck with your project.
I tried raising Aspidoras pauciradiatus and I did get some eggs but even in soft, acid water I could never get their eggs to hatch. They placed most of their eggs near the outlet of a power head driven sponge filter on adjacent side panes and plants.
I may be wrong but my impressions were that this species might be more difficult than some of the larger Aspidoras species.

The only thing A. pauciradiatus (still) has in common with Aspidoras is the name...new genetic analysis puts it in the "elegansgroup".apistomaster wrote:Good luck with your project.

A. spilotus is close (maybe even the same) ad C125 and they are very easy to breed and raise. I'd say it's difficult not to succeed

Re: any tips for aspidoras spilotus?
Guess it is obvious that I had not yet heard A. pauciradiatus had been reclassified as a Corydoras. I thought the chief difference was the number of fontenals between Corys and Aspisdoras, Makes me want to try breeding "Aspidoras" paucifadiatus even more as I prefer the dwarf Corys.

It has not been officially put in with Corydoras yet as the work is not finished. I don't even know if it will be put in Corydoras. We just had a little sneak peak at the CSG Convention in march
But when you think about it, they are caught a long way from all the other Apidoras and they are very different in behaviour as well.

I was there at the CSG conference too, and basically, Corydoras + Aspidoras + Brochis, from a genetic perspective, should be split into approximately 9 different genus. I don't remember the exact details that Kim is talking of, but there are certainly some groups that are shuffled about. Brochis for example is in the middle of another genus.

I always regarded Aspidoras pauciradiatus as something similar but at the same time very different from Corys of a similar size.

MatsP,
Where can I get the breakdown of the proposed split of the Genus?

Re: any tips for aspidoras spilotus?
they have finally spawned for me!!! spawned 4 times in about 3 weeks. saved a few fry from the first 2 spawns. they ate the eggs of the other 2 spawns! it has now been almost 3 weeks and i have not seen any more eggs! i wonder if they are eating the eggs as soon as they spawn? any ideas what to do? should i try splitting my group up into 2 different tanks? my group now is 11 fish.

Re: any tips for aspidoras spilotus?
I have only spawned Aspidorus pauciradiatus and I food them to eat their eggs almost as fast as they lay them.
Very frustrating. I had hoped I could breed them colony style as I always have the dwarf Corydoras, C. hastatus and C. habrosus but that did not prove to be the case.

Re: any tips for aspidoras spilotus?
they spawned 2 times before and did not bother the eggs! only the last 2 spawns did they eat the eggs.but i have not seen eggs for the last 3 weeks now. either not spawning, or eating them fast. i have another tank cycled, thinking of moving half into it.
