bn agression?

Post by satony »

I had a quick question to post here. Do male bushy nose get agressive enough to kill there female mate? I lost one bn female yesterday and now when I got home the other bn female had blood on her but good thing I was able to remove her. They are housed in a 29g with lots of drift wood and caves. and all the other inhabitants are small different species plecos. plus one yo-yo loach. Was wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

thanks,
Aaron

i guess anythings possible, but I had a colony living together, 3 males two females in a 40 gal breeder with numerous fry of different ages and no deaths ever.

the males jostled a bit, mostly bumping is all.

I hope it's nothing bacterial since you saw some blood.

what size tank, what water parameters, what water change, feeding, maintenance schedule? what diet? what other occupants? what furniture in the tank? :?:

I have heard of this happening, but it's not the common behaviour. I guess it's just like with humans: most couples don't kill their partner, but it does happen at times...

I do once a week 50% water changes. feed them nls and cucumbers. there in a 29g tank. and havent checked parameters yet. but I do its probably not bacterial because I made sure she was fine when the other female died. and thats only been a day. Plus her fins are all chewed up like shes been fighting. see the male is much older than the females, and it seems the females where just about the right size to spawn. So mabe he was to aggresive while trying to mate?

I've had them get feisty when there are too many sub-adult males, just getting their bristles in the tank. For some reason, I get a lot of male offspring. They want to challenge the alpha male for the mature female. They'll begin to nip/"bite" each other on the head, between the eyes and dorsal fin. This area can quickly become red and infected. I remove harassed fish to quarantine.

actually I think I may have a fungus of some sort or infections from a tank bully. but either way now my l-204 looks skinny and has like a white spot between his eyes and dorsal fin. and all his fins are mangled looking.....so I seperated him two days ago and I am giving him and the tank he came out treatments of pimafix and melafix. Hopefully he gets better....I really like this species and is my only one for now....
