What pleco to get????

I recently purchased a $50 "gold spotted" L005 pleco which the store indicated would get 7-8" long which is what I was looking for.

I got home to found out they only get 4". I'm returning the fish but was wondering which fish to get?

I have a 55 gallon tank and do not want to get a pleco that gets over 10" but wanted something bigger than 4. I was hoping for 8".

I want something that is cool to look at as well and doesn't hide in a cave all day.

Any ideas out there?
