Dekeyseria L052 eggs...
Unfortunately not INSIDE the cave. And I don't even know what triggered it - could have been the cleaning of the circulation pump that I did yesterday. Or simply the weather, or random...
Edit: And the eggs are in the fry-saver for the time being - I'm not holding my breath, but there is a better chance than leaving them in the tank with the parents and a good dozen corys.

Good luck with them, Mats. Do you think it's their first spawn?

First that I've noticed - and they aren't that good at hiding normally (not like Birger Amundsen's, where he just finds fry all of a sudden).bronzefry wrote:Good luck with them, Mats. Do you think it's their first spawn?

Re: Dekeyseria L052 eggs...
I really want to get a group of these now.. just worried as my tank space is getting limited (sold off a bunch of tanks and fish....) would they live well with my madtoms in your personal opinion mats?
BTW CONGRATS... those eggs look extremely healthy as of now!

Re: Dekeyseria L052 eggs...
How large are your madtoms, and what temperature?
And I definitely understand the "where do I put them" problem...

Re: Dekeyseria L052 eggs...
my madtoms are between 2.5-4.5" TL and being kept at 78 degrees currently (tank is unheated)
I had been thinking of L52's for a while, just never knew if I should jump or not.

Re: Dekeyseria L052 eggs...
Do you plan on keeping them at 78'F all year around? I'd expect the Madtoms would like a cool-down during winter...
But 78'F is fine for Dekeyseria - mine are a bit warmer, about 80'F at the moment, but that's because it's warm in the fish room at the mo (I keep the door open to keep it cool).

Re: Dekeyseria L052 eggs...
could you possibly post images of the adults and the tank set up? I would like to see them (even if the pictures are very good because they are hiding lol.)

Right now it looks more likely that I'll be able to extract penicillin than I am able to get little fish... Fungus all over, and didn't have time to do something about it this morning.

Re: Dekeyseria L052 eggs...
Sure, the fact that they laid eggs is very hopeful for future layings of eggs...

Re: Dekeyseria L052 eggs...
Congratulations Mats!
I put up a question some weeks ago about dying L168 fry. These fish were of some one I know, a breeding group. His fish lay there eggs between the slates and rock piles, not in the cave. The male guards them by lying over the eggs. The eggs hatch and the fry start free swimming strait away.
Hope it works out for you!! Good luck

Re: Dekeyseria L052 eggs...
Bad news: eggs all fungused. I tries to rescue the three or four eggs that still looked OK, but with no luck at all.
But I do believe they will do it again!

Absolutely - you can't breed fish without them laying eggs... And nearly always, the first batch isn't any good anyways, and hopefully "dad" will learn how to deal with things.

Re: Dekeyseria L052 eggs...
Congrats Mats. This is a notable achievement. As you said, the hardest part is getting boys and girls that will do what nature is telling them to. You have crossed that line and now it is just a matter of letting them practice a bit.
