I probably will sound naive and silly, but I am thinking that penalty is justified when someone uses hands (on purpose or not) and interferes with a situation that could POTENTIALLY, perhaps LIKELY lead to a shot at a goal.

When the ball is 100% is going into the net and someone uses hands to stop it, what's the sense in penalty? Penalty, being somewhat a thing of chance, appears more or less adequate and fair substitute when the play situation broken up by someones hands is still more or less a MATTER OR CHANCE - will the attackers score or not?

With the ball being taken out of the net by hands, it should not matter - it's a goal. Period. It is as clear as day. I agree completely. Ghana were robbed from that match. and Suarez (the perpetrator) should be banned for 3 games instead of one for it.

but what is done is done. but ever since South korea got kicked out, I've been going for the Netherlands

You stand on the goal line, in the 129th minute and have a ball hit just above your shoulder. You have to be dead not to handle it. Have you never played in goal too? Suarez' reaction after being sent off (when the penalty was missed) is how I would chose to label him - not on an instinctive thing like the handball.

I would agree about the three game ban, it would mean he missed the final should they get past Spain without him but then I still like the idea of a penalty goal for these strict circumstances. It doesn't happen often, but it happens more often than, for example, a pass back where the keeper picks up the ball.

Germany were good, but let's see what happens with the Dutch who look better at the back and in midfield to me.

uruguay won the first ever world cup and in total has won 2
and i thought spain might've won a few before but it turns out they didnt. and not really sure about netherlands

His name is Özil, but ä,ö,ü are not really widespread letters.. So you either substitute them for a,o,u or it´s ae,oe,ue.

Holland reached the finals in 1974 and 1978 and lost both. That's why a lot of dutch people love to see Germany in the finals. We have some revenge to take upon our bigger brother (preferably to win in the 90th minute).

He was a Tunisian but qualifies for Germany due to some parental ancestry type thing - (who would wanna play national football for Tunisia who [no disrespect] will never win the World Cup)

Similar with Podolski who is a Pole.

It is prevelant throughout sport (South African Cricketers playing for England, New Zealand Rugby players playing for Italy, ....the list is endless)

Klose is a Pole as well! Germany has a great team, but so does the Netherlands. I'm so excited, I really want to see the Netherlands take the cup home for the first time! But first, let's deal with Uruguay, they have a good, defending team!

well, technically speaking, they are all (also) Germans. Otherwise, they could not play for Germany!
That´s the joy of a multicultural society.. That does include, by the way, Cacau, our man with Brazilian roots! Anyone still remember Gerald Asamoah from the last world cup? He once was the only German player on the field of an international game of Schalke04.
Not to forget the Altintop brothers, who grew up in the city next to where I grew up, but play for the turkish national team.

After all, we are all one big family!

What I was referring to was the way the commentators show their bias when referring to players on the team that they oppose. Ozil was considered a "German" player until Germany was doing so well, same as Boteng, Klose, Podolski, Cacau. As soon as they are beating 'their' team, all of the sudden that same 'German' player starts being referred to as a xxx/German player as though, he's not a 'real' German player. I think this happens with all the teams.

Shamefully, Canada did that with one of our best sprinters at the Olympics, Ben Johnson, gold medal winner. He was "A Canadian" until he was caught doing steroids and then the press started calling him 'Jamaican' Canadian. It was disgusting.

Yeah, van Bommel is a nasty kind of player. If that "tackle" just before Gio's best goal of the tournament (he learnt that in Scotland you know ) was seen by the ref, he'd be off (at least in the first few games of the tournament). Rightly too, just a dirty player, he had some kind of visual forcefield on against the Brazilians too, and didn't even get a card for all sorts of nastiness.

To score three goals in a semi and against a strong defence is impressive, even if some think it was a business-like performance. Really enjoyed it and it might not be total football but very watchable. I bet there were a few nerves in the last few minutes eh?

But the Dutch were good value, and the right team for the final. But who will they meet there? The best team in the tournament on paper or the best team inthe tournament on the pitch.

I'd be very happy to watch either combination on Sunday.

I should try watching the Spanish language coverage, even though I can't understand Spanish. At least when a card is deserved, I'll know it.

I took it you looked "pummel" up in a Dutch dictionary..... I didn't know it's an English verb meaning "beating someone up".
Funny thing is that the Dutch "pummel" (noun) means "lout, oaf and/or someone who doesn't know how to behave himself".
