Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?

Ah, the whole problem in Martin's tank was started by me bringing the fish down from Pier... They didn't like being moved twice in the same week, I suspect. I still feel a bit guilty, tho'.

Unless you're a clairvoyant there was little you could do about that, could you?
I was actually complimenting you for getting Martin back into the hobby. For a moment I thought he would give up completely and it's good to see he doesn't.
Btw: don't tell me about the fragility/sensitivity of Auchenipterus nigripinnis; they've already given me some hard times. Difficult fish, especially after being moved from one tank to another.

Mats - you needn't - it was just one of those things, it was just a tough time to see all the fish drop with nothing I could do to stop them, I certainly would not blame you and don;t want you to feel any guilt.

Nice of you to share some with Martin; he really deserves some new auchenipterids after the horrible disaster that cost him so many fishes.

Thanks Marc, and yes, Mats has been a good friend since joining PC, and is always happy to take orders for fish if he goes on trips, share his time and experience, as have you with all your help over the past few years, and for that I thank you both.

I have to admit to having let the tropical tank slip a little lately, but everything is happy, feeding, so I'm happy to leave it to it's own devices. I picked up an oddball brachyrhamdia recently which sparked a fresh interest in the tank, and when Mats mentioned the PC trip on Facebook, I asked him to let me know what Neil had for sale (after a look at the latest stocklist) in the hope that he may be able to acquire a pair of either the C.reticulatus or T.exilis, but on the day, the former won out, and am glad to see Mats has some also. I'm due to go over and see him soon, he is taking on my two remaining doras, and we did talk about swapping out the C.romani as I think we both have a glut of opposite sexes. I'm hoping to take a pair of the C.reticulatus to add to my tank.

It depends on the size of fish I'm photographing. for the smaller fish I use one about 5 inches, for the larger stuff (like the A. punctatus) I use one that is about 10 inch.
Thanks. Not bad for a normal camera that is about 9 years old and only about 3.5 MP. Some belong to me, others to friends.
Yes the A. nauticus is very nice n spikey, especially the shot from above.

When everything goes like it should go then next week I receive 5 fishes that are listed as "Tatia sp. Aluopyga". I haven't seen any pics so I haven't really an idea what they will turn out to be.

They were indeed Tatia intermedia. I bought them anyway.

The ones that should be T. galaxias were also T. intermedia.

Last week the Helmond LFS got a shipment from Indonesia including.... Tatia galaxias.
So it seems they are commercially bred over there.
But not to worry: they were (also/again) T. intermedia.

I don't think it matters what they are listed as. If you find one standing out from the rest in a WC batch, you may well presume it's a different species.
That's exactly how I found my single C. reticulatus in a batch of WC C. perugiae - though ALL were listed as reticulatus

confirm (or deny) that these are very slow growers?
Mine don't seem to grow anymore and are currently 8 cms TL.

I've known for some time that there are at least 2 geographical variants of morrowi, the degree and size of spots being one difference. However I've noticed that on some 'morrowi' the postcleithral (humeral) process is long and angled sharply upwards (like on these) whereas on others it is shorter and at a different angle. At first I thought it was a sexual difference in addition to the morphology of the dorsal fin spine, but I don't think this is the case.

Some years ago Ingo sent me images of the two variants and gave me the different river distribution info but I no longer have the email. I can remember him pointing out the difference in spots but I've only just noticed the postcleithral process possibly being different. See the difference in my image to that of yours at a similar size fish.

I think they will be the same species though, bearing in mind how Tatia gyrina and T. creutzbergi has been viewed recently.

Also an image of a smaller specimen. That one has the postcleithral process a bit sharper angled like yours. Could be a sexual difference after all?

Possibly they will be treated as the same, but sincerely I am not so sure gyrina and creuzbergi should be treated as 100% identical...

Yes it will vary somewhat but we will see, as I said there is supposed to be two variants.

I personally cannot see, particularly looking at their different distribution, that they can be the same species. I think the differences used in the Tatia revision to class them as geographical variants of one species, could easily be used by other ichthyologists to class them as different species. Time will tell.

2 obvious males, one very likely female and an undetermined individual...really too small to be sexed!!

Thats awesome, and congrats. I am down to minimal Auch's now.. just have my big group of jag's. Luckily, my parents are great keepers of these fish . We have not noticed any more fry (they weren't put into the outside pond this summer, which maybe something they ate while in the pond sparked the spawn???) But the group is definately large enough that it should happen again.

I am looking for another smaller group for my odd shaped tank. The dimensions are 30"x14"x13tall" I am hoping to get some retic's... as this new one isn't available over here (that I have found...)
