Madre de Dios, Peru
Hi everyone,
I am leaving for the Madre de Dios region in Peru in one month. I am going to be looking primarily for Auchenipteridae, Loricarridae, some cichlid species and killifish. I am curious to know if anyone has been to this region and might be able to share what species I may find there.
This will also be my first trip to South America and any tips that anyone can provide would be great. In particular, is there anything outside of the obvious that you wish you had taken along with you. I will share photos when I get back, thanks for the help in advance!

Jeremy,
Are you looking for advice on collecting equipment to take or personal kit? If it is personal kit, good collecting shoes (2 pair) are the most important. They need to fully enclose the foot, have a sole thick enough to stop broken glass, and have a tightening mechanism so they will not pull off your foot in thick mud. If it is kit a trusty 4'X4' seine.
I am the Imelda Marcos of collecting shoes, which have become much better made in recent years. My two favorite current pairs are rip currents and techamphibians. Make sure you wear them (soaking wet!) for a good amount of time before you take them to the field. The time to find out they blister your feet is not in the middle of the Amazon.

More pics
Fishwise it looks like the ones I collected with a couple of friend around Iquitos a couple of years ago, but might not be the exact same species. I'm not so strong i L-cats
Did you find any corys or killis?

Yes we collected a type of Rivulus here as well as the North-Eastern portion of the Madre de Dios region, less then 30 miles from the Bolivian border. I did not get any photos of the Rivulus but Brian Perkins has these currently. He might be able to share some photos of these with us.
We did also collect one species of Corydoras on the trip. I do have a photo of this fish and will post it when I can. More photos to come!
