Was sold as Dekeyseria pulcher - butterfly plec
Hi everybody.
I need your help to identify these fish.
These fish were sold as Dekeyseria pulcher - butterfly plec, but do not appear to me to be of the Dekeyseria genus at all, any ideas?
Thanks in advance

(or possibly one of the close relative species), definitely not Dekeyseria pulchra (D. pulcher is a synonym to the accepted namae).

Re: Was sold as Dekeyseria pulcher - butterfly plec
I have seen Pnaque maccus sold under so many names that I have lost track of them all.
At least here in the USA, a lot of on-line fish dealers play very loose and fast with both scientific and common names if they either do know, or don't know or do know but want to hype the name to get more out of them than is a reasonable price for such a common and cheap species.
No other pleco other than common Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus is misidentified more.
I notice especially on aquabid.com that many sellers offer small common Bushy Nose as "Dwarf Bushy Nose" and in my view, there is nothing dwarf about common Bushy Nose.
Dwarf Bushy Nose to me mean Ancistrus claro or if there are any other similarly small Ancistrus species. I think there are a few but when they are young only A. claro is distinctive enough to tell apart from other, larger species, unless they are from a very trustworthy source who can assure you that their dwarf Ancistrus remains truly small like A. claro.
Sorry for the tangential rant; it is a pet peeve I have with sellers who do not describe their stock accurately.

I know you are joking, but just in case I had accidentally hit the wrong button somewhere, I checked the "moderator logs", and it is clear that no posts have been deleted in this thread at all.grokefish wrote:LOL maybe Mats wiped and stole the glory!!!!Richard B wrote:I agree, i did post this a few minutes ago but it is not here???
