Temporary rehousing of a gibbiceps

Hi all!

I need to temporarily house a large 8" gibbiceps and I have a choice of 4 tanks:

63l tank which has, amongst other community fish, 2 1" bristlenoses.

122l tank which already has another 8" gibbiceps (and he is quite territorial), along with other community fish.

119l tank with a 6" pim pictus (and other community fish).

Another 63l tank with a very territorial 5" blue loach (and other community fish).

I anticipate him being temporarirly elsewhere a week absolute maxiumum, while I try and fix the apparent leak from the tank he is in at the minute (at my workplace) The other fish in the tank won't be a problem - they will go in one of my tanks, no worries, but I am worried about the gibby- any advice gratefully received.

An 8" fish would need a tank that is at least 16 x 16 x 32" - converted to cm that is about 40 x 40 x 80, or 128 liter. So a tank that is half the volume is obviously not good enough.

If you can't house the fish yourself, is there a friendly LFS somewhere that could give your fish a temporary home?

Yes, I suppose - particularly if extra water changes and/or reduced feeding is used to control the water quality.

Thank you for the advice so far, but I am more worried about the occupants of the tanks - my LFS said he would be fine in with my gibbiceps, but I would have thought they would fight - what do you think? or room in with the pim pictus, but again - would there be trouble?

I'd say it's more likely to be trouble mixing two P. gibbiceps than a P. gibbiceps with a Pim - the pim won't feel territorial against a suckermouth, and if the suckermouth is trying to harass the pictus, the pictus will be fast enough to get away, I'd say.

personally i say a gibbcep with another gibbicep in a 122 litre tank, is like putting 2 fierce boxers to fight in a small cube!!

i say 119 litre tank with the pim.
after all, like others say the pim should be fine. because its only 1 week after all

just be careful on water quality
