Yup, no rules except that it's a catfish. We've had haiku and cryptograms and everything in between. Easy way to see if your target fish has been done is to use the edit->find feature on the Listed Fish page.

Colorus- link to color (American spelling)
I use the Canadian spelling so the 'U' was right at home, just in the wrong spot. Colour, labour, neighbourhood, all brightly underlined by spellcheck :-)

Clue 1. My name sake is always up and down but a lovely investment for most women. (And large black men with mohawks)

Clue 2. I'm common and commonly confused with others.

Clue 3. Lucius Veras and I share a common number - good for me but it wasn't so good for him.

My guess was mainly based on clue 3: "Lucius Veras and I share a common number - good for me but it wasn't so good for him".
Lucius died in 169 - which wasn't good for him I reckon. No idea why it is good for the fish
"Number" guided me towards L-numbers.
"Common and commonly confused with others" indicated a P. maccus kind of fish imo; lots of debates & questions about this one. Many keepers too.
That's all really.

That pretty much sums it up plus it's a GOLD striped panaque and gold is an up and down stock that many women purchase as investments but wear as jewelry. The reference to large black men with a mohawk was Mr. T - anyone remember him? Draped in gold?

Marc,
No idea why it is good for the fish
I think that was just my interpretation of L numbers...give a fish an L number and automatically the price goes up.
Poof, more desirable!

Alright, an easy one:

I resemble a catfish that recently got a different genus name.
However, I'm from a different continent.
Lionel may have caught some in his younger days.

The fish I resemble is rather popular, but gets too big.
Both my look-a-like and myself may have something in common with the Gizeh Sfinx, especially when we're not careful...

Dang torbanite, I think you've got it. They look quite a bit like iridescent sharks, the too-large fish they resemble! ID sharks are also notorious for destroying their noses in small aquaria.

See, dead easy.

On a side note: the sphinx used to have a nose, but it was (severely) damaged, which may also be the case with both fishes mentioned - as Suckermouth also remarks.
The link with Pangasianodon hypopthalmus is easily made wrt looks and thus correct.

Ugh, i feel rusty... here goes

New fish..

If you (as a male child) said "Dad, what is this Callichthid?" & he replied, albeit you were wrong in the first place & his reply was wrong, it would identify the genus.

The species is not from North America but it sounds like it might be
