I agree, the mouth doesn't look right for L136 to me. A shot of the mouth itself would be good to confirm/deny that theory.

If memory serves me well - this seller appears to have some quality, generally well identified fish, although the wild??? TSN x marmoratus was from this seller?

Plecos though are not the easiest & i think this one is a good point in question...

The L136 a, b markings are smaller in the body, a mouth shot would be best to compare. yes I agree John is a good seller.

L136c maybe

But I doubt that it IS that... Even if it's close to the border to Brazil and there are rivers that cross from Guiana to Brazil, I doubt that it would be sold as "L136" - it would have a BIG pricetag for being unusual. L136 comes from Venzuela/Colombia border, so would be less pricey - they are after all legal to export there, whilst Brazilian Hypancistrus are illegal to export.

That's of course just thinking logically, I have no other evidence to support these thoughts.

He had auctions up for L136a before, I think, so he did correctly distinguish the fish in pics 1 and 3 as different from pic 2.

The tail shape looks diffrent between the plecs on your pics and the L136C called on the internet.
The tail looks more forked on your plecs.
But I do think it's a Hypancistrus sp.

I have L136A, but mine are darker, less little spots.
So for the little spotted plecs maybe L262?
I don't know about the shape of the body of L262 and your pleco's.
I'm no expert, but I hope this helps a little.

BTW these are very beautiful fish!

The L136 stays little 7-10 cm and I saw the L48 gets bigger, up to 30 cm.
So if you wait a few years ;) we'll know

the pictures I posted are the ones listed as L136b his photo shows them as black with white spots but the ones he sent me are different as you can see they have yellow spots so could they be L201

The spots will probably go back to white when the fish settle in. My king tigers and alenquer 333's will go yellow when stressed but then back to white when they're back in the tank and relaxed. If John says that these fish are from the Negro, I'd say that that's the truth. I just bought a handful of LDA01's this week from him and they're also from the negro. I also bought some L135's three weeks ago - also from the Negro. He's getting banned fish in stock regularly, so the fact that the fish is on the ban list doesn't mean that it should be ruled out. He had 401's a few weeks back, and those were the real deal. The pics he uses in his auctions are of the actual fish he is selling.

I don't think so, because L201 not often have stripes between the spots and is they have, they hav'nt so much.

I sent John and email a few days ago basically letting him know about this thread so he doesn't feel attacked or anything like that.

He responded that he will take other pictures to post when he has a chance. I will say let them settled in and take some more pictures in a few weeks.

I'm currently working a deal out for a group of fish he has posted as L-201. I'll be getting 8-10 providing he can get me more females than males. I'm working with 1 55 gallon tank so I don't want to get too many, i'll likely wean it down to 2 trios if possible. I'll be sure to post pics to this thread when they arrive.

Those fish are Hypancistrus...morphology match...

The lone fish is a L136b and the other ones are the a type but still you can find each type in a single spawn so it doesn't matter which one you get

Which fish are you referring to? it was never in question that they were not Hypancistrus...

Again? Which fish are you referring to? They are not the same type of fish and therefore should be kept separately.

Yes they look different, but actually if you have a pair of L136b for exemple...when you get spawn, you can have all 3 type (A, B, C) in the spawn.
