L15 or???

Post by fair1889 »

I have had this group of seven catfish for 8 months now.
I am thinking they are L015 or L209, definately Peckoltia. Any help on sexing the ones in the pics would be a bonus.

Could be L209, L15 and a few others. Without knowing at least country of origin, it's hard to differentiate them.

I understand - but unfortunately, that means that it will be hard to tell the actual species. You could try asking your shop to see if they have some idea where it came from - some shops DO know (or can find out).

I'd say they're a little too dark for L15's.

Nice quality pictures Andy

Would it be possible to get a picture of their tail?

Here are my L15's from the Amazon. I've had them about a year and they're sexually mature at just over 3" TL.

Here they are a year ago:

I know that color is somewhat variable, but these are significantly yellower than the OP's fish.

They do look like , but as I said earlier, there are a few others that are pretty similar - quite likely a monophyletic group (that is, they have evolved from the same ancestor) in the Peckoltia genus.

I chose a photo of one of some I had several years ago for my avatar. I think they are a nice species and always an affordable one.
