The new look

Post by Silurus »

Jools,

The new look is very nice and all...but the purple fish sure don't look like catfish to me.

I thought they were bubbles at first  Jools claims they're L18's. I liked plain old subSilver better too.

Hmm, maybe if the fish weren't purple. You seem to have an inordinate fondness for purple, Jools. That your favorite color?

Even a puple gradient would be better than purple gold nuggets!

Hmm...I'm not sure a purple gradient would be good, unless the words were made some other color. The purple fish get in the way of the (purple) words sometimes, so I think something's gotta give.

You should have seen some of my earlier attempts! It's not finalised, I am also planning to change lots of the gifs to be more "planetcatfishy". The purple plecos do appear to be unpopular. Yes, I do like purple but also quite fond of my greens. There are two forces at work here:

 I don't want to use subsilver 'cos it doesn't fit in with the look of the rest of the site and it makes the forum look like every other.

 The forum has to look reasonable on a number of operating systems and browsers and remain fast to load.

I think it might be the death knell for the purple plecos though.

There are some very cutesy gifs of catfishes (and other stuff) here: http://www.linkclub.or.jp/~tarot/gift/gift2.html. Can't read Japanese, though, so I'm not sure how one goes about obtaining permission to use them (or if they even can be used in the first place).

Anyone speak Japanese and can persue this? Would be nice to make these available as avatars. The gifs (Image,Image,Image,Image,Image,Image,Image,Image,Image and Image for Pete) are very lovely.

Did you notice that C. barbatus had a common name of space shuttle cory? Now that I have not seen before!

Jools,

I have dibs on the Kryptopterus for my avatar! (I think I'm entitled to first crack as the "discoverer").

Jools,

How about a naturally purple catfish somewhere to go with this new purple-based look?

Yup. So now it's open season on the gifs.
There are actually quite a few cute non-catfish ones.

Synodontis garnulosus! It has a definite purple sheen. (See the January 2003 Catfish of the Month, if you haven't already!)
