Well, P. brevis distribution roughly matches Rio Itaya, so it may just be a colour variation on P. brevis.

I'm not at all an expert on this group of fishes - I'm just saying that the if P. brevis lives in Rio Itaya and other rivers in that area, then the Rio Itaya variant may well look different from the other species covered by that species name. It's close to P. brevis, that's for sure. I don't think it's correct to call it "P. sp. Rio Itaya", it would be more accurate, in my amateur Ichthyology opinion to call it P. brevis 'Rio Itaya', if you wanted to designate it to a specific region - which is perfectly valid thing to do.

Of course, as I said, I don't know this species well - it may be that the exporter/importer/wholesaler can see some difference that I'm not looking for.

Looks more like an unknown fish, not an unknown coin (specie = coin, species = type of animal(s)). Sorry, had to do that... ;)

And from that picture, I'd say it'll remain unknown... At least a shot of the head. From what I can see of it, I'd say that it's a possible Chaetostoma - but that's just a completely wild guess.

I don't think it's a Chaetostoma. I haven't looked at a ton of Chaetostoma but I don't think that tail shape is typical in that genus. A Peckoltia (or Hemiancistrus) I think is pretty likely, but I am not familiar with those genera. Looks vaguely like the fish in the pic of L055, for instance.

A little hard to see from that picture but I'm sure if better pics are provided someone here will be able to have an idea or at least will try to ID it.

Hi,

..your Peckoltia sp. "Blue" should be .

And the last one is most likely Ancistomus sp. "L 147" (or Hemiancistrus, if I remember correctly).

Cheers, Sandor

Can we confirm the export location of the L055 - if that can be confirm, I'd say it's correctly ID'd, and we then want pictures of that one, as we only have a single picture...

I think L147 is the correct ID for that one. But if both fish came from the same exporter, I don't think the L055 is correct ID, as there is a huge amoung of geographical obstacles between the Rio Meta area in Venezulea/Colombia, and Araguaia in the Brazilian state of Amapa on the border to French Guiana.

Hello everyone.

First of all, I apologize for my bad english

It's my daughter and her boyfriend who have purchased these fish.
4 individuals purchased as Peckoltia sp. Rio Itaya and 7 purchased as Peckoltia sp. Blue.
We see that the 4 "Rio Itaya" must be three different species.
I make a new thread for each of the 4 species, then it's maybe easier to identify each species :D

Unless there are NEW posts in the thread that are clearly confusing, I'd say it's fine to just leave this thread as it is - no one post here unless it's CLEARING something up.
