sold as "gold zebra pleco"
I'll get some pics in the morning, dont want to disturb the tank this evening. I was at my LFS who has a really good reputation, at least from my experiance, with the fish he sells. I was looking at a tank, which contained some raphael catfish(very cool looking), and I noticed a pleco in the tank. I asked the owner what it was, and he had just gotten it in that day, so he had to go look, and told me it was sold to him, as a "Gold Zebra Pleco", I didn't care much exactly what it was, I've always liked plecos, just havent had the best luck with them surviving for unknown reasons(had 2 "exotic" plecos die on me the past year, 1 was a tiger pleco, and 1 was a royal pleco) Anyhow he cut me a break on the fish, wanted 25 for it, sold it to me for 13 because of my bad luck in the past. He also told me it was a sailfin strain, right now its only about 1.5 inchs, but adjusting very nicely to the tank so far. I'll get some good pics in the AM, but does anyone know what might be labeled a gold zebra pleco? i looked but found nothing, tons of zebras, but none called gold.

Re: sold as "gold zebra pl*co"
does he resemble any of the common name with zebra in the title on this site?
When he says sailfin strain the only thing that might go by sailfin that i know of is a gibby. Very beautiful pl*co in my opinion. But I have never heard them remotely referred to as zebra.
also the joselimaianus looks kind of goldy zebra ish maybe..maybe more goldy checkered but defintely has a sailfin.
Sailfin and zebra are polar opposites to me. Sailfin makes me think potential BIG zebra makes me think nice and small.
The zebras i know of are the real one L046, the chocolate zebra L270 the L316 Jari zebra
Alot of hypans look zebra esque as far as stripes but do not have zebra in the common name. Did you look thru all the hypan pictures?
I am excited to see a picture of him.

Re: sold as "gold zebra pleco"
Without a photo, it's almost impossible to play the "guess the fish" if neither the guesser nor the question-master knows what the right answer is.
There are literally several dozen of striped plecos of different kinds that could match "gold zebra" description.
Of course, if your LFS could tell you what country it came from, it would help a whole lot.
However, despite the difficulty in guessing, I'm going to make an educated guess on (aka L129). They are fairly common in the trade, and the price is about right. But as I said, there are a few dozen that look roughly like that.
