S. njassae

Post by Adam »

Hi all,

I've got a question regarding S. njassae. I bought 3 that look like the pictures that SG_Eurystomus posted last December http://www.forum.planetcatfish.com/view ... ht=njassae. I bought a further 5 a couple of months after from the same LFS from a second batch they had for sale. They are smaller 5cm compared to 10cm. They don't have the small black blotches on their head as the larger ones do. Everthing else is almost identical. Is it the same species? I know its hard without a photo but I can't do one at the moment.

I look forward to your comments.

They are the same species. The black spots will prbably show up once they grow bigger.

There is a large/small spot njassae, not sure if they are north/south. However, the spotting is something that varies with age.

Can the presence of the smaller spots on the head be used as a means of determining maturity?

If by maturity, you mean sexual maturity, then no, I don't think so.
