what breeds easiest
I have my group of Albino BN. breeding like crazy, I was looking to start another species. I already have (1) 204, (1) 047 and (1)264, would any of these be a good candidate to start a breeding group? which would be the easiest? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Based on threads and the CotM article, it seems on your list, the L204s would be easiest, than the L264 and lastly the L047 as most seem to think the Baryancistrus are the toughest to breed, plus they need the most space. I'm sure others with breeding experience of these species will speak up.

I agree, the would be the most accommodating as far as water conditions and temperament also slightly smaller size than the which would also have slightly more difficult temperament to deal with. The as mentioned would need lots of space and care would be more difficult.

i agree 204 are easiest. try hypancistrus sp. they are very slow growers but very worthwhile and this time of year easy to get hands on some nice stock specially 333's and 66's.

Re: what breeds easiest
Who on earth finds breeding Panaque L204 easy? The whole list are species which are not easily bred.
I think any Hypancistrus species is easier to breed than L204.
Just because the L204 come from fairly hard water and a slightly alkaline river drainage does not mean they are going to be easier to breed than species from soft acid water.
Most Hypancistrus seem to accept tap water which is moderately hard and slightly alkaline just fine. H. zebra breed in many areas' tap water and my Peckoltia L134 and Hypancistrus L333 could care less about their water as long as it is clean. True, a water change using RO replacement sometimes will stimulate fish that are already near spawning but it is the clean fresh water that makes the most difference.

Well, it's comparative Larry. I don't anyone said any of those are easy to breed, but perhaps a better description is that the L204 is more conducive to spawning in aquaria, which can be demonstrated by the incidences of breeding logged here on PC. But perhaps the correct description is which of these three are the least difficult to breed. And I do agree that Hypans are easier, and many local hobbyists have found (l201, L066, L046 and L260's to name a few), but the OP didn't give us that option.apistomaster wrote:Who on earth finds breeding Panaque L204 easy?
