Re: what am I?
Yup, no rules except that it's a catfish. We've had haiku and cryptograms and everything in between. Easy way to see if your target fish has been done is to use the edit->find feature on the Listed Fish page. Thanks Tana. Does that mean I have to set the next one? Let me think...

Re: what am I?
I use the Canadian spelling so the 'U' was right at home, just in the wrong spot. Colour, labour, neighbourhood, all brightly underlined by spellcheckColorus- link to color (American spelling)
Clue 1. My name sake is always up and down but a lovely investment for most women. (And large black men with mohawks)
Clue 2. I'm common and commonly confused with others.
Clue 3. Lucius Veras and I share a common number - good for me but it wasn't so good for him.

Marc how did you get that?
I can't co-relate the answer to the clues at all.

Re: what am I?
My guess was mainly based on clue 3: "Lucius Veras and I share a common number - good for me but it wasn't so good for him".grokefish wrote:Marc how did you get that?

Lucius died in 169 - which wasn't good for him I reckon. No idea why it is good for the fish
"Number" guided me towards L-numbers.
"Common and commonly confused with others" indicated a P. maccus kind of fish imo; lots of debates & questions about this one. Many keepers too.
That's all really.

Re: what am I?
That pretty much sums it up plus it's a GOLD striped panaque and gold is an up and down stock that many women purchase as investments but wear as jewelry. The reference to large black men with a mohawk was Mr. T - anyone remember him? Draped in gold?
Marc,
Poof, more desirable!
Marc,
I think that was just my interpretation of L numbers...give a fish an L number and automatically the price goes up.No idea why it is good for the fish

Re: what am I?
Alright, an easy one:
I resemble a catfish that recently got a different genus name.
However, I'm from a different continent.
Lionel may have caught some in his younger days.

Re: what am I?
The fish I resemble is rather popular, but gets too big.
Both my look-a-like and myself may have something in common with the Gizeh Sfinx, especially when we're not careful...

Both above entries are incorrect, although Richard leads by keener thinking.
Again, it's an easy one so don't try too hard.

Dang torbanite, I think you've got it. They look quite a bit like iridescent sharks, the too-large fish they resemble! ID sharks are also notorious for destroying their noses in small aquaria.

See, dead easy.torbanite wrote:The sphinx is missing a nose.. & I believe you have some who tend to smash their noses against the glass
On a side note: the sphinx used to have a nose, but it was (severely) damaged, which may also be the case with both fishes mentioned - as Suckermouth also remarks.
The link with Pangasianodon hypopthalmus is easily made wrt looks and thus correct.
Lionel = Messi, from Argentina.
I think that covers all clues.

OK..
i) I'm a big southern species.
ii) When I was a fry, both of my parents cared for me and, unusually, fry from other species as well.

Ugh, i feel rusty... here goes
New fish..
If you (as a male child) said "Dad, what is this Callichthid?" & he replied, albeit you were wrong in the first place & his reply was wrong, it would identify the genus.
The species is not from North America but it sounds like it might be
