Good fish shops in Oxford
Im off to oxford in the morning, having a look at some fish shops, i know the goldfish bowl and im going to wheatly as well, but recently the shops i have been to have left me very dissapointed. Was just wandering what sort of plecs/cats to expect from either of these shops?
Is there anywhere else in and around the oxford areas i could be looking at?

I'm not going to spoil it for you. The goldfish bowl is OK and has more than just bread and butter fish. But if it's catfish you're after, Maidenhead Wheatley is fantastic and likely the best I've ever been to. The Goldfish Bowl also sells Spirulina flakes - the first I've ever seen. Naturally, I bought some.
There are other Maidenheads in Oxford, although I haven't been there. If you go, please do tell us what they're like.

Ive heard very good things about Wheatley so thats going to be my first port of call, and ive never been, Ive been to the goldfish bowl before but was still a novice back then and not knowing what i was truly looking for. Ive been looking for spirulina flakes for some time in shops and never came across them, good reason to go then.
Thanks for your help and i will let you know how i get on at Wheatley.

Re: Good fish shops in Oxford
I went to both the Goldfish Bowl and MA in Wheatley 2 weeks ago. There were a few nice bits at Goldfish including a nice Adonis and I think they had a few L200s and L128s but I was blown away by the store at Wheatley. Lots and lots of plecs!! Probably more plecs than I have seen in any other MA and they all looked very healthy and were reasonably priced. I must have spent at least 45 minutes just walking back and forth between the plecs tanks. I will certainly be going back to Wheatley soon with the aim of picking up a few nice things.
However I would ignore the other MA in Oxford which is just off the A34 if you want nice/rarer fish, they had a very small selection of tropical tanks and nothing exciting.

Q) Why are dead fish harder to 'wind up' than live fish?
A) Because dead fish never take the bait! ;)

World of Water @ Bicester might be worth a visit.
They get some interesting stuff in occasionally.
Never bought anything from there, as the fish always had velvet or ich, or looked very unhealthy generally.
Hopefully the store has improved in recent years though.

Wow, what can i say, Wheatley was amazing, just like Lloyd said ive never seen so many plecs in one store, and as for synos, well definetly be going back in a few weeks to pick up some very good fish. They had a very good variety of plecs, which i love, I didnt buy anything because of space but i will be making space very soon
