I think the coffee Jools was/is drinking would be "Mocha" - so a Mochokidae it would be.

Now, that reduces it down to 158 species in the Cat-eLog. If we make the assumption that it's a Synodontis, we can reduce it to 119 species - there's probably a bunch more we can reduce it by, simply knowing Richard - but I have no good idea what he's writing about, so I can't limit it MUCH.

Why would Richard write about that species, wrong continent!

Jools
Well, it's not inconceivable, as there are only TWO actual keepers of these - I have the fish that Martin originally bought, and Richard is the other keeper. I'm sure there are others out in the world that has some as they had a whole bunch of them at MA Farnham and a few other MA branches some time ago. They must have gone somewhere, but the keepers are obviously not registering with Planet Catfish.

I think Jools has ruled out SA fish on this- so I'm assuming that it's an African fish we're looking for, but the only one that's left that Richard's got on his "My Cats" list that hasn't already been a CotM is Lophiobagrus cyclurus, which I can't get to fit the clue.

noone did, but I can't think of another way to guess otherwise! I'd thought that, to do a CotM article, it should be a species someone has kept, preferably reasonably successfully... Plus I've gone through all the African families I can think of and nothing's leapt out at me...

Yes, but HAVING kept a fish doesn't mean it's necessarily on the My Cats - and the experience may still count...

true- I've got a few from the distant past (1980s) I never added due to not being sure of dates, but anything recent would be there even if I killed them off (under "kept" rather than "keeping")

This is a little strange but like those with TV's I have to go through the channels.

I have similar South American friends that dislike swimming in water.

Well, that is it for now.
