I was thinking of ordering some earthworm sticks for my synos, what do you think?

Also I have no idea where to order them from and do they sink? Would they like them?

I have never seen them locally.

I use Earthworm SInkers to suppliment my Synos diet. There are several places on the web where you can buy them online. I buy mine from Aquaricare. What is nice is that you can order them in sizes from 7 oz to 5 lbs. Yes they do sink. Feed them 1 hour after the lights go out if you have day feeders in the tank.

I'm sure other members will have their opinion of what brand to purchase.

Definately try them - they can't vary too much from manufacturer to manufacturer & are great for synos - shrimp sticks too!

they came in the mail today, two silver bags with zip locks, one earthworms one brine shrimp.

Cool! (The shrimp sticks i have used are not brine shrimp but more like krill-kind-of-shrimp so i'm interested in what you find)

well, the cories and the synos LOVE them! it was a big hit!

I am very happy with them, colourwise. and look and texture. Nice stuff! I would def order again, but I ordered the smallest amount and they are good size silver bags! 1 lb each. I hope I can use them all before they expire. there is no exp date so I am guessing 6 mos?

Cool - I always think it's a good idea to offer a varied diet - particularly dry prepared food - so fish don't get used to something & turn their noses up at other brands/types

I have been using earth worm sticks as my main prepared staple food for several years. I don't have any Africans but It is the best food I have found for raising the fry of carnivorous Loricaridae, young domestic discus and Heckel Discus of all ages.
I buy mine from aquaticeco.com but I believe kensfish.com product is identical. It is a very useful and economical food that is very well suited for fish that like to graze continuously. I use ten pounds of the stuff annually. It stores well. It is best to keep the main supply in the freezer and just keep out what you can use in a month.

oh good idea re the freezer, thanks. My guys are now also addicted to : TetraMin® Variety Wafers...crazy for them! All my catfish are very hardy and good eaters. ((knock on wood))

Where can you get these in the UK? I've also read of earthworm sticks with shrimp...please enlighten me.

Also, where do any of you (in the UK) buy sinking Spirulina tablets?

Most algae wafers have spirulina as a main ingredient.

And there are people selling earthworm feeds on e-bay - I don't know of any shop that does, tho'.

I've been reading a lot on these "earthworm sticks" and I think I'm going to put in an order at Kensfish for earthworm sticks and veggie sticks to give them a try. Thanks for all the info.

Synos, corys, pl*cos....they all love them. I've also seen my otos nibbling them. And my goldfish also like them. I break them up in half for them

I also use NLS (large fish formula) for my cichlids and growouts. Sounds like this would be a killer combo. aquaticeo.com appears to be a bit more expensive, so I'm going to try Ken's first.

One local user mentioned that he doesn't like it because it seems to create a cloudy water condition because it breaks up too fast. That's the main thing I'm watching for. Will update once I've used it for a while. I got a half lb to try out.

I have been very happy with Ken's service and products as well. As for the earthworm sticks, I don't know why they call them that specifically - earthworms are the 11th ingredient on the ingredient list?? I use the freeze dried whole earthworms from Kens and my synos go absolutely nuts for them - they don't sink but that's no problem for the synos as they skim the surface in their upside down position. For $10.95 you get a 1/4 pound which is a huge amount. The worms are about the thickness of the lead in a wooden pencil and are about 1 - 1 1/2". And with the whole earthworms there is no issue with cloudy water or the like.

try the sinking sticks he has, awesome! he has them in brine shrimp, earthworm, veggie, spirulina. sinking sticks about less than half an inch long and about a smidge thick, you can always break them smaller if you want.

No water quality issues with Ken's that I have ever noticed.

That's what I got, the sinking earthworm sticks. I'll have to see how it gets in the tank, as that's what my friend complained about, the cloudiness.

Wow! The results are in and all my catfish love them except the panaques. I have never seem my L128, L200's, and L075 so much before. They were all over the tank looking for scraps. And of course the Hypans love them too. The best part was that my cichlids didn't seem particularly interested so this is one food that my plecos will be able to get lots of.

practically every pleco enthusiast in the Toronto region uses earthworm sticks as one of the staples for their pleco's diet.

All of my fish eats them, from ancistrus, to hypans, to pseudas, to panaques, to peckoltias, to corys, to shrimps, to snails, to rasboras and to geophagus.

They dont pollute the water, though they never stay in the water uneaten long enough for me to tell....

They hold their structural integrity very well in the water.

They contain no copper or other heavy metals...which is important to me for the shrimp's and snail's sake.

dont think I missed anything.

Though one thing is that I find some of the larger fish have a little more trouble eating it due to the small stick shape. So if there were to be different sizes (perhaps ones in wafers like the NLS H2Os), it would pretty cover the entire playing field.

Yeah, I gathered that from Canadapleco.com. But for some reason (maybe the shipping), very few people use it out here on the west coast, so I've just recently discovered them.

ya, I feel like shipping is the main reason. There is a person in the area that regularly buys stuff in bulk from Ken....which he then distributes to the Toronto and surrounding areas once a month....which makes it easier for us here in Toronto.
