Will Multipunctatus socialize with other Synocats?
Will Multipunctatus socialize with other Synocats?
I'm just curious if Syno Multis will socialize the same way with different Synocats, or are they pretty much particular to their own kind?

They will socialize with their own kind and I don't think there would be a problem keeping them with the rift lake species S. petricola or lucipinnis, which are also gregarious. There could be a problem keeping them with the more territorial riverine species (like nigrita, etc.), which might result in the multipunctata being bullied.

A lot depends on what the other synos are. They are undoubtedly best in groups of their own kind but will get on quite well with other tanganyikan synos like grandiops, sp.2, a lone granulosa, petricola, irsacae, tanganicae & lucipinnis, not so well with polli though - of course this in itself depends on tank size & numbers of each species.
they can mix with some other synos but this is more tricky.(did you specifically have something in mind?)
The best situation is a hard alkaline system with mutis in a group

My multi's did fine with Lucipinnis, but there were 5-6 individuals of each species. The true "socializing" was still among the multi's and among the Lucipinnis.

I have a single lucipinnis I picked up about a year ago. The same pet store now has a single multipunctatus. I'm pretty sure its probably a grandiops. They are similar in size. Do you think they will cohabit peacefully or with just 2 will there be bullying?

These should be ok as long as they're not cramped. I find there is little aggression between these speciesrahendricks wrote:I have a single lucipinnis I picked up about a year ago.
