l239 Blue Fin Panaque Breeding Questions

Post by MarkN »

I recently picked up a nice group of these little guys and I am interested in trying to breed them in the future. Has anyone had any success with them? All I seem to find is a note here or there that states breeding is known in captivity but nothing else?

Any tips on food likes or dislikes would be appreciated as well, maybe I'll stumble across somehting they really like.

Thanks Mark

I've read about them being bred, but they are certainly not the easiest fish to keep, never mind breed.

They are mainly vegetarian, so fresh vegetables should be a large part of their diet.

I expect the rest of breeding is the same as other Loricariidae - well fed, clean water, rainy period simulation, and suitable size caves.

There is a guy on a French forum that was breeding them. Not sure how many he has raised but I don't believe a real lot. Also had a lot of trouble raising them. Beautiful fish though one of my fave's

I've found them extremely tough to keep. I lost mine all in one night. 2 were given to me when I bought a third because they hadn't been eating and were not expected to live and I think the 2 dead ones spiked the ammonia in the 15 gallon tank and killed the third, which was my bad. :(

So it would be encouraging to see someone actively breeding them. Good luck.

This is what people told me when I asked:

I can tell you that my trio hasn't done anything.
