Trip out: 28th Dec Pier Wigan (Was: Change of plan...)

Post by MatsP »

I said earlier that I would like to meet up at Oxford between Christmas and New Year. This may still be possible, but I have pretty much decided to drive up to Wigan for a visit to Pier (and perhaps one or two other shops nearby, if that can be agreed).

The plan for now is loosely:
Date: 28th of Dec (a Monday).
Time: For me to arrive there at 12 noon, I need to set off before 8 AM - so around 1pm to 2pm arrival in Wigan seems reasonable to me, if I count on also stopping for a quick "pitstop" and a bit of extra traffic etc.

If anyone wants to join me in my car or some such, please feel free to say so (PM for details of addresses and other contact details of course).

So, has anything at Pier caught your fancy, or just fancied somewhere different? I have wanted to go there for some time, so sounds like an excellent change of plan.
That's the bank holiday Monday - I might be able to make it, and would love to join you for the journey if I can. I'll know more next week and will confirm either way.

Yes, I'm trying to get a group of L183, they have some 4" (TL) at £18 each - and both males and females in the group which is better than the others I've seen. And apparently brazilian L59's, which may be nice too.

Just to confirm, the 28th is indeed a Bank Holiday, as the 26th falls on a Saturday.

Sure, should be able to do that. But Martin S may be coming along, and as I understand it, you work not far apart, so it may be easier for Martin to get the fish for you - let's see what happens.

Seems like Martin can't make it, so I should have space in my car, if you want - I'll be using my wife's car, so plenty of space.

Suggestions welcome - I'm picking up ricefish near Newbury, so I'll be going M3 -> A34 -> M40 -> M6 (subject to change).

I will let you know when we leave ricefish's place - should be around 9AM if I get going when I want to. And according to Google maps, it should then be about 1h30 to get to that pub.

Sorry, but with my change of personal circumstances, the kids have to come first. Another time, definitely.

Yes, definitely - was looking forward to catching up again Richard. Again, another time for sure.

Enjoy your day - I know Neil doesn't have any woodcats in, so at least you won't come home with tales of fish I would really have wanted
I look forward to hearing what you all came home with, and hopefully Richard will finally get his hands on the mini tank setup that Mats has been looking after for him!

Martin: Good point on the tank. Must move that to my wife's car - otherwise I'll probably leave it behind...

And I know that family comes first, and it's not like it's the ONLY chance to go.

Maybe we can ALL make it to the CSG conference - I think it's the March 8-10th (I've booked holiday for those days already)

Hi Mats and Richard

What time do you think you will get to Pier? I'll plan on driving over to meet you there.

By the way the Convention is on 5-7th March.

Well, the current plan is to leave at 8AM, with a 4h30 drive to get there, so around 12.30 is the "ideal" arrival time. Undoubtedly, it will take a little bit longer, as there will be some traffic about and I will probably stop at least once, just to stretch the legs a bit and such. I said in one of the first posts that I'd be there before 2PM.

I'm 100% sure there will be plenty of nice fish on Tuesday too.

The L183 tank may be a tad emptier tho', as I currently have orders for another 5 on top of the 3 I'm getting.

Off to bed now, hope to still leave around 8AM.

Planet Catfish days out - you gotta love 'em!

I can't believe i didn't buy anything, & boy they had a lotta stuff. They do have a lot less now though

Hopefully Mats & Ricefish will be home by now - so expect their posts soon. I don't wanna hijack Mats' thread but there were some great fish - & not just cats. Maybe i'll start a new thread - i'll see what Mats says
