P.maccus maybe male?

Post by L number Banana »

Finally got a pic of the squiggly-faced one that stays in the cave. He looks spiky in this picture. Does that mean I may finally have a male? One of the missing other "un-sexed" ones is in the cave at the back :beardy:

this may be hard for you but could you maybe get a birds eye view of the fish? then others could tell if its a male or not by head and body shape and if it has odontal (if thats how you spell it :an: ) growth

Yes, from above or from behind is the best way to see the odontodal (I believe that is the correct word) growth.

A side-on view must be very sharp, high resolution and good contrast to show any odontodal growth.

I'll see if I can coax him to co-operate. Need to move the tank in the near future so the fish will be lined up for publicity shots.

If only judging from that photo I would say female. Not so sharp photo so its difficult to see any odontodal growth.

Thanks griparn,
Would behaviour notes help while I wait to get better pics?
This one and my oldest one that I already know is female are both hanging out in the same cave. Would that be common for two females? No sign of fanning type behaviour.

I'll still try for the sharp odontodal photo.
